Giants Sign Defensive End: The Giants have signed DE Dave Tollefson off of the Oakland Raiders’ Practice Squad. Because of this move, we have updated the Free Agent Signings (includes scouting report on Tollefson), Roster, and Depth Chart sections of the website.
Giants Place FB Robert Douglas on Injured Reserve: The Giants have placed FB Robert Douglas on Injured Reserve, thus ending his 2007 NFL season. Douglas originally hurt the knee during the 2007 preseason. He is the tenth Giant on Injured Reserve. Because of this move, we have updated the Roster and Depth Chart sections of the website.
Practice Squad Moves: The Giants have signed OG Matt Lentz to the Practice Squad. Lentz spent the 2006 NFL season on the Giants’ Injured Reserve. He was waived right before the 2007 season started, signed to the Practice Squad, and then waived again 10 days later.
To make room for Lentz, the Giants waived LB Rory Johnson, who was signed to the Practice Squad just last week.
In addition, the Giants waived DE Marquise Gunn from the Practice Squad on September 25, a day after they had signed him to the Practice Squad. Gunn was waived to make room for Johnson.
Because of these moves, we have updated the Roster Analysis and Roster sections of the website.
Giants Workout Two Place Kickers: According to The Star-Ledger, the Giants have worked out place kickers Josh Huston and Billy Cundiff yesterday. However, neither was offered a contract. Huston was with the Giants in training camp, but was beaten out by Lawrence Tynes, who missed a 34-yard field goal and an extra point last Sunday against the Eagles. Cundiff has played for the Cowboys and Saints.
DE Osi Umenyiora Named "NFC Defensive Player of the Week": DE Osi Umenyiora was named the "NFC Defensive Player of the Week" for his 6-sack performance against the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday. Umenyiora is the first Giant to be named Defensive Player of the Week since DE Michael Strahan won the award in Week 8 of the 2003 season.
