Latest on the Injury Situation

Injury Report:  CB Aaron Ross dislocated his right shoulder against the Cowboys. "It happened when I was trying to make a tackle," said Ross after the game.  "I went low and it hit.  I never had my shoulder hurt like that.  I mean, my arm went numb.  I went in and got it taped up.  After halftime, I tried to hit Barber again and it happened again."

When Head Coach Tom Coughlin was asked about Ross yesterday, he responded, "He is sore, but we will see day-to-day what is going to happen with that…I know that Aaron is sore but that kind of an injury has been controlled and is being controlled by a young man on our team right now in terms of (TE) Mike Matthews.  Hopefully we can get the strength back where it belongs and we can do some things here to make sure that it doesn’t happen again.  Aaron, who wants to play and has talked about it, we can get him right back on the practice field.  We are looking to be able to do that first."

RT Kareem McKenzie also aggravated the ankle injury that he suffered against the Buccaneers.  DE Michael Strahan sprained a groin muscle.  Both are expected to play against the Packers on Sunday.

When asked about the availability of injured cornerbacks Sam Madison (abdomen) and Kevin Dockery (hip flexor), Coughlin responded, "In terms of Madison and Dockery, progress is being made, but it is something that is going to be evaluated every day and really I don’t have any comment on it right now.  I would like to see where we are on Wednesday before we comment on anything."

Notes: The Giants are the first team in NFL history to win nine consecutive road games in a single season.

The Giants became the seventh team since the 1970 merger to win a postseason game over a team it had lost to twice in the regular season.  The Giants have never lost to a team three times in a season.

The Giants are the first team to defeat the NFC’s top-ranked seed in the divisional round since the current postseason format was adopted in 1990.

The Giants have improved their postseason record to 18-23, including 5-14 on the road. This is the first time in their history that the Giants have won back-to-back postseason road games.

This was the Giants’ first victory on the road in the divisional round. They are 1-5 as visitors in the Divisional Playoffs, 1-4 since the merger.

The Giants are now 4-2 in the postseason against their NFC East rivals: 1-0 vs. Dallas, 1-1 vs. Washington (losing in 1943, winning in 1986) and 2-1 against Philadelphia (winning in 1981 and 2000, losing in 2006).

Tom Coughlin is the fifth head coach in Giants history to win at least two postseason games, joining Bill Parcells (eight), and Steve Owen (two), Jim Lee Howell (two), and Jim Fassel (two).

QB Eli Manning’s postseason record is now 2-2. He is only the fourth Giants quarterback in the Giants Stadium era (since 1976) to win multiple postseason games. Phil Simms won six, Jeff Hostetler three, and Kerry Collins two.

WR Amani Toomer has a team-high 11 catches this playoff season to increase his career total to 32. That moved him past Mark Bavaro (30) and into first place on the franchise’s career postseason list.  Toomer increased his career postseason total to seven touchdown catches. No one else in Giants playoff history has more than three (Bavaro and Frank Gifford).
