July 31, 2008 New York Giants Training Camp Reports: To see the latest BBI training camp reports, please visit the Training Camp section of the website.

Giants’ Beat Writer Practice Reports: The following are brief practice reports provided by the NY/NJ beat writers who cover the Giants:

Injury Report: Not practicing yesterday were WR Mario Manningham (quad), WR Plaxico Burress (ankle), LB Gerris Wilkinson (knee – PUP), and WR David Tyree (knee – PUP).

DE/DT Justin Tuck (foot), WR Steve Smith (groin), and OT Adam Koets (dizziness) returned to practice.

“I wish we had those people on the field, because we certainly would have an opportunity to be a little bit further along than we are,” Head Coach Tom Coughlin said. “We are looking forward to getting them all back. Steve (Smith) was back out there today, not really totally over the issue with his groin, but he was back out there. That was good. In that position, when you practice the way you should be, you really need to distribute the load. That’s why you need the numbers, and when the numbers are down, you have fewer people doing the multitude of the work, and it can become an issue of overload. We’re just trying to make sure that the guys that we have stay on the field.”

Bradshaw to Serve More Jail Time After the Season? But He Won’t Be Suspended by NFL: According to the Bristol Herald-Courier, HB Ahmad Bradshaw is not through with his jail time. Bradshaw spent approximately 30 days in June and July in an Abingdon, Virginia jail supposedly due to a probation violation. What the original offense (which occurred when he was a juvenile) or subsequent violation (which occurred before the 2007 NFL Draft) still have not been publicly revealed. The paper says the actual sentence is a 60-day one and that Bradshaw will serve the remainder of the sentence after the 2008 NFL season.

Meanwhile, the NFL has said that they will not fine or suspend Bradshaw for the offense.

Contract Talk With Plaxico May Be Broken Off?: According to The Star-Ledger, contract talks between the Giants and WR Plaxico Burress are not progressing as hoped and contract talks may be broken off soon because both sides remain so far apart.

Notes and Quotes: S Kenny Phillips saw some reps with the first team yesterday. “We’re going to continue to do that,” Coughlin said. “There were some situation defenses we played that we had him come out for. He is going to continue to get that kind of work. We’re moving around some of our nickel and dime stuff, putting different people in different spots. We’re just trying to give everybody a lot of work.”

Coughlin on DT Fred Robbins: “Fred’s had a good camp. He’s in outstanding condition, he’s worked hard, and it’s very obvious. He is very quick off the mark, and he’s penetrated and been in the backfield about four times on us in the last two days. The down block is supposed to take care of that, but we can’t seem to do it. You talk about a big strong man, but also, a guy that’s really done a nice job in terms of conditioning himself, and it’s really paying off on the field. We’re hoping that it continues, because there is no doubt he has it in him. A couple of years ago, when he was our Defensive MVP, that’s about where he was in terms of his conditioning.”
