Giants’ Beat Writer Practice Reports: The following are brief practice reports provided by the NY/NJ beat writers who cover the Giants:

Injury Report: Because of inclement weather, the Giants held an indoor walk-thru practice in the morning.

Missing the evening practice were WR Amani Toomer (knee), WR Steve Smith (groin/hamstring), WR Mario Manningham (quad), WR David Tyree (knee), LB/DE Mathias Kiwanuka (groin), LB Jonathan Goff (back), CB Sam Madison (sports hernia), CB R.W. McQuarters (hip flexor), and PK Lawrence Tynes (leg).

DE Osi Umenyiora left practice early with a sore knee.

WR Plaxico Burress (ankle/feet) practiced again on a limited basis, taking part in individual drills, but was held out of team drills.

When asked about Manningham, Head Coach Tom Coughlin responded, “Well, (him missing practice is) not helping. We just don’t see anything. He can’t practice, so you go on everything you understood about him when you drafted him. He’s in every meeting, he does all that, but he doesn’t get to rep it. For a young guy, they need to do it. ”

“I’m going to be out there in the next couple of days,” said Manningham. “I’m going to be playing the last two preseason games. I’ll be ready.”

Then Coughlin was asked about Smith. “Yeah, but that’s not been good either,” said Coughlin. “It started out as a groin, it went to a hamstring and you know, it’s been one thing after another. That has not helped. We went through this last year, and we count on Steve being out there. So it’s been that position this year that’s given us a lot of headaches.”

Tynes will not kick on Monday in the second preseason game. “I’ve never been hurt,” Tynes said. “So I’m not extremely worried, but I’m a little bit, obviously. It’s concerning because I haven’t kicked for five days and I’ve never missed a game before.”

Tyree, who has been on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform List since the start of camp, talked about his situation. “You just don’t want to get out there and set yourself back,” said Tyree. “Obviously, it’s trusting the doctors and (Vice President of Medical Services) Ronnie Barnes, who has been doing this for 30 years. So they are very excited about my progress and I’m feeling good about it. Of course, I would love to be out there, but the last thing I want to do is go out there and then take five steps back…It’s a four-month surgery, so I’m at four months…(I feel) strong, very strong. I have no pain, no soreness, and maybe a little bit of swelling, which is something that can be reoccurring but nothing that will keep me from working every day. That’s always good.”

Giants Sign PK Josh Huston: The Giants have signed PK Josh Huston. The Giants signed Huston because of the injury to PK Lawrence Tynes (leg). Tynes will not play on Monday against the Browns. Huston, who was with the Giants last year in camp, beat out Billy Cundiff and Shane Andrus in a kicking tryout yesterday. Andrus had been with the Giants earlier this offseason.

Giants Claim OT Cliff Louis Off of Waivers from Browns: The Giants claimed OT Cliff Louis off of waivers from the Cleveland Browns yesterday.

Notes: Recently retired DE Michael Strahan was at the evening practice yesterday, watching his ex-teammates. “I don’t miss it,” said Strahan.
