More Jersey Number Information: According to Giants.com, Giants’ first-round draft pick WR Hakeem Nicks will wear #18. That number had been Jeff Feagles’ jersey number, but Feagles apparently will go back to wearing #17, the number he gave up when the Giants signed WR Plaxico Burress in 2005.

Giants Did Not Try to Trade Up for Maclin?: Last Tuesday, The Star-Ledger reported that the Giants tried to trade up to the #20 spot (Detroit Lions) in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft in order to select WR Jeremy Maclin (Missouri). The Eagles traded up to the #19 spot (Cleveland Browns) to take Maclin, suggesting that the Eagles beat the Giants to the punch.

However, NFL.com is reporting that “high-ranking Giants sources” deny that the team tried to trade up for Maclin. The Giants supposedly were interested in trading up for WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (Maryland), but only if he fell to the #16 spot. Heyward-Bey was drafted in the #7 spot by the Oakland Raiders.
