June 1, 2009 New York Giants OTA: The Giants began their second week of Organized Team Activity (OTA) practices and the media was allowed their first glimpse yesterday. Veterans and rookies practiced from 10:30AM to noon. Afterward, Head Coach Tom Coughlin and a number of players spoke to the media.

OTA report: The Star-Ledger

June 1, 2009 New York Giants Injury Report: DE Osi Umenyiora, who missed all of last season with a knee injury, practiced yesterday. “(The knee) feels good right now,” said Umenyiora. “It feels great. But football shape is different than regular shape. Even out there today, after we ran like three plays, I was like ‘Man…’ I felt it a little bit. And I’ve been running. I felt like I was in good shape before. But football shape is totally different. You can’t simulate that.  I feel like I’ll be OK, though.”

WR David Tyree (knee), who also missed all of last season, practiced.

As expected, DT Fred Robbins (knee) and DT Barry Cofield (knee) did not practice. Both are still recovering from offseason knee surgeries. “They are not going to do anything this spring,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “You see (Cofield) on the side with his running. He looks to be doing well. Fred is going to be a little slower…Hopefully we will have them for camp.”

LB Michael Boley (hip flexor) did not practice.

CB Corey Webster (hip flexor) was limited to individual drills in practice yesterday.

LB Clint Sintim left practice early with a hamstring injury. “That is not going to help him or us,” said Coughlin.

Quotes: Head Coach Tom Coughlin on the team’s new practice and office facilities: “It’s a very exciting time of year for us. One of the main reasons for that is that we have a fabulous new facility that we’re very, very proud of. We’re just now going through the process. We’re very grateful to the Mara and Tisch families for the facility they have built for the New York Giant team for our training, our office facility. It’s really spectacular. I sit in an office that looks over three full grass fields. We have an entire football field within a field house. We have a 60-yard FieldTurf field in the back. We have a brand new 7,500 square-foot weight room. We have brand new office space, a brand new locker room for our players, a brand new cafeteria, all new offices. So the Giant offices and training facilities will now be at our new training center. I can’t tell you what a wonderful spot this is and how proud and thankful we are as coaches and as players.”

Coughlin on the 2009 regular-season schedule: “They tell me that they do this schedule by computer at the NFL office – I’m not too sure that I agree with that. We open with Washington at home again in a 4:15 game. We go on the road for three straight games. The first game, you could have bet on this one, we are opening the new stadium in Dallas with the Cowboys on September 20th. We look forward to that. We have outstanding home games with Arizona, San Diego, and Atlanta. You’re talking about playoff teams that are coming to Giants Stadium, the last year of the present Giants Stadium before we go into the new stadium in 2010. I always feel a little bit nostalgic when we talk about a new facility because the old Giants Stadium has been the home of three world champions.”
