August 15, 2009 New York Giants Training Camp Reports: The following are brief practice reports provided by the NY/NJ beat writers who cover the Giants:

Injury Update: Not practicing yesterday were WR Steve Smith (knee), DT Fred Robbins (knee), DT Chris Canty (hamstring), DT Rocky Bernard (hamstring), LB Michael Boley (hip), CB Corey Webster (hip flexor), and CB Aaron Ross (leg).

When Head Coach Tom Coughlin was asked when Canty, Webster, and Ross might return, he responded, “I ask that too. I keep asking, but I all I get is, ‘Improving, but…improving, but…’. That’s what I get.”

Smith did perform in individual drills and said he should be back at practice on Wednesday. Robbins also did individual drills.

“I feel I could practice today,” said Smith before practice yesterday. “But they’re going to wait until after the game.”

Coughlin said Smith, Robbins, Canty, Bernard, Boley, Webster, and Ross will not play against the Carolina Panthers on Monday night.

WR Sinorice Moss (hamstring) returned to practice.

Quotes: Head Coach Tom Coughlin on HB Andre Brown, who will be placed on season-ending Injured Reserve on September 1st: “He’s doing well. He was playing well. He really was. You could see the talent. He had that really good size and the quickness. He reminded me of some backs we’ve had around here who dropped their shoulder and moved the pile a little bit. He scored on the goal line. You saw him the other day. It’s just a sad, sad thing when you lose a player in a practice. The sad thing is that he was just running a route and all of the sudden he starts flopping. I felt really bad for Andre because emotionally…he knows he’s done well and he would’ve been a lot of things; special teams, he would’ve helped on, and all kinds of things. It was so early in training camp, too, without even having a game. I feel bad for the kid.”
