BBI Online Live Archived; Roster Moves

BBI’s Wednesday Radio Show Archived: Last night’s edition of BigBlueInteractive.com’s (BBI’s) weekly internet radio show dedicated exclusively to coverage of the New York Giants, BBI Online Live, has been archived. The audio is available at Sports Talk Radio (BlogTalkRadio.com/STCP). You can play or download (recommended) the audio under the “On Demand Episode” section (make sure you download the episode labeled 12/23/2009).

Roster Moves: The Giants placed TE Darcy Johnson on Injured Reserve yesterday with a shoulder injury. The move officially ends Johnson’s season. Johnson said he originally injured the shoulder against the Chiefs and aggravated the injury in the game against the Broncos on Thanksgiving.

When asked specifically what was wrong, Johnson responded, “I don’t know. Something in the shoulder. Probably labrum, clavicle or AC (acromioclavicular) joint. All of it. I don’t really know too much of the details about it. I’m not a doctor.”

To fill Johnson’s roster spot, the Giants signed TE Scott Chandler from the Practice Squad of the Dallas Cowboys.

Because of these moves, we have updated the Transactions, Roster, Depth Chart, and Roster Analysis (includes a scouting report on Chandler) sections of the website.

Steve Smith Seeking Contract Extension: According to The Daily News, WR Steve Smith will be seeking a contract extension after the 2009 NFL season. Smith is currently signed through the 2010, but he may not become an unrestricted free agent until 2013 if a new labor deal is not agreed upon.

“He wants to be a part of (the New York Giants),” said Smith’s agent. “He’s with an organization that can win. He’s got a great quarterback. You always have a chance to go all the way and he can hit all his goals there. I know there are some issues up in the air, but if you have a chance to lock guys up, you lock guys up. Especially with a player like this.”

Injury Update – 13 On Injury List: The Giants only held a jog-thru practice yesterday.

Players not practicing included CB Corey Webster (knee), LB Michael Boley (triceps), HB Ahmad Bradshaw (ankles/foot), RT Kareem McKenzie (knee), and LG Rich Seubert (knee).

Limited in practice were CB Kevin Dockery (ankle), CB/S Aaron Ross (hamstring), S C.C. Brown (hamstring), LB Jonathan Goff (hamstring/ribs), LB Chase Blackburn (ribs), WR Hakeem Nicks (hamstring), and PK Lawrence Tynes (hamstring).

QB Eli Manning (foot) participated fully.

Ross had a second MRI taken on his hamstring on Tuesday after the first one was taken last week. Both MRI’s showed no new damage. However, Ross did not sound overly optimistic about the injury when asked by reporters. He said he still feels tightness in the hamstring.
