Jacobs Regrets Not Having Surgery Sooner; Strahan to Umenyiora: Stop Saying “Stupid Stuff”

Jacobs Regrets Not Having Surgery Sooner: Halfback Brandon Jacobs underwent surgery last month to repair a partially torn meniscus in his right knee that bothered him all of last season. Jacobs said yesterday that he originally hurt the knee in the season opener. He also said he should have had surgery on the knee right after he hurt it.

“I would’ve got it done Week 1, missed four or five weeks and came back and played,” said Jacobs. “(I learned) not to play hurt. If something happens to you, no matter what it is, go and get it taken care of. Because things aren’t going to get better.”

“As the year went on I thought it was going to get better, it was going to get better, it was going to get better,” Jacobs said. “But when I figured out it wasn’t going to get better, it was too late. So I just kept going. I just kept going on it. I have to put it all on myself. No one else but me. I did it.”

Jacobs said he won’t blame his subpar season on the injury. “You know I’m not one to make those excuses and blame my non-success on injury,” said Jacobs. “That’s never been me. You guys know that. I’ve never made excuses for anything.”

Jacobs said he expects to start running soon and that he will participate in the Giants’ offseason strength training and conditioning program, which begins in March.

Strahan to Umenyiora: Stop Saying “Stupid Stuff”: Former Giants’ defensive end Michael Strahan commented yesterday on DE Osi Umenyiora’s recent public demands to start again or else.

“I hit him the other day and said ‘Stop saying stupid stuff…You got a better chance of me coming back than you quitting,’” Strahan told The New York Post. “That ain’t happening. He ain’t quitting nothing. I said the same mess, ‘I ain’t coming back.’ He’ll be there, he’s not going anywhere. He’s too good of a player to let go. Whenever you have these knee injuries you never really come back and have that season you had before the next season. It’s always the season after. He’ll come back next year 100 percent, the knee will feel good, he’ll be fine. He’s just frustrated. I said ‘Stop saying stupid stuff, I was the only one allowed to say stupid stuff.’”

“What do I think he wants? He wants to play, he wants to start,” said Strahan. “He’s frustrated. Sometimes you ask a guy a question, he says what’s on his mind, but they got a better shot of me coming back and me having my best year ever than of Osi quitting football.”
