Domenik Hixon Lost for Season: The Giants received terrible news yesterday when an MRI revealed that WR Domenik Hixon has a torn ACL in his knee. Hixon injured his knee during yesterday’s afternoon practice when his foot got caught in the new stadium turf.

Hixon will undergo season-ending knee surgery in 2-3 weeks.

“Our doctors and trainers on the field yesterday tested his knee and they thought it was intact,” said General Manager Jerry Reese. “Obviously, he had the MRI and we were a little surprised it came back as an ACL.”

“Injuries are part of the game, somebody gets injured we expect somebody to step up, number one,” Reese said. “We have some guys we think can step up in that spot. The guy who comes to mind right away is (Mario) Manningham, he can do some return specialist stuff for us. I think he can be a punt returner. We have kick returners, my concern would be as a punt returner right now. We think Aaron Ross, who was a punt returner in college, can do some work for us back there. And obviously we will look to see if there are any trade possibilities for us back there.”

Day Two of Mini-Camp: Day two of the Giants’ three-day, full-squad mini-camp was held yesterday, with two more practices. There is one more practice this morning. The practice is not open to the public.

Injury Update: Aside from Hixon, not practicing yesterday were HB Ahmad Bradshaw (soreness from offseason feet and ankle surgery), TE Kevin Boss (offseason ankle surgery), OG/OC Kevin Boothe (offseason pectoral surgery), DT Jay Alford (knee), and S Kenny Phillips (still recovering from knee surgery).

DE Justin Tuck (foot) missed the afternoon practice. Tuck has had issues with his foot for several years since suffering a Lis Franc injury in 2005.

WR Hakeem Nicks (offseason toe and wrist surgery) missed the morning practice but practiced in the afternoon.

Quotes: Head Coach Tom Coughlin on OT William Beatty: “I like what I have seen. He has had a good offseason. He is bigger, he is stronger. He is playing both sides. We know that he is extremely athletic. Assignment-wise he has gotten pretty good. I see improvement.”

DE Mathias Kiwanuka on DE Jason Pierre-Paul: “He is a phenomenal athlete. The best is yet to come. He has a lot of untapped potential. He can do a lot of things on the field that a lot of guys can’t do. Just the way he rushes, his speed, his athletic ability, jumping-wise, being able to change direction, he will fit in very well.”
