New York Giants Grant Osi Umenyiora Permission to Seek Trade: According to press reports, the Giants have granted DE Osi Umenyiora permission to seek a trade. There are reports that the Giants want a first-round draft pick for Umenyiora. Teams that may be interested in Umenyiora’s services are the Falcons, Ravens, Seahawks, Broncos, and Rams.

“What really annoys me is the hypocrisy of people clamoring for my head for asking for a new deal or to be traded,” said Umenyiora. “Saying I have two (years) left on my deal. These contracts only mean something to us? Where is (Shaun) O’Hara? Where is (Rich) Seubert? True inspirational football players. They were cut after being injured.”

“They have years left on their deal,” said Umenyiora. “Why is jacobs asked to take a pay cut? He has years left on his deal. The fact is in the business we are in, if you get injured, or they feel like you under performed, they cut you without hesitation. But if you clearly outplay your contract, and ask for something to be done, (you’re) a bad guy and not a team player. (It’s) ridiculous.”

“How does (DE Charles Johnson of the Panthers), who had one good year, sign a deal and make more than both me and (Justin) Tuck combined? It’s not right,” Umenyiora said. “Everyone in this business understands that is exactly what it is. Business. And just like none of us get upset when our teammates are released due to business decisions, the teams also don’t get upset when something like this happens.”

Meanwhile, Umenyiora has yet to practice at camp.

Giants Agree to Terms with Ahmad Bradshaw: The Giants have agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent HB Ahmad Bradshaw. The contract is reportedly a 4-year, $18 million deal with $9 million in guaranteed money.

Giants Sign TE Ben Patrick: The Giants have officially signed unrestricted free agent TE Ben Patrick (Arizona Cardinals). The contract is reportedly a 1-year deal. “He worked out very well for us,” Head Coach Tom Coughlin said. “He caught the ball well, moved well, he’s in very good shape.”

Giants Claim Offensive Lineman Off of Waivers: According to press reports, the Giants have claimed OG Herman Johnson off of waivers from the Chicago Bears.

Giants Waive Chad Jones and Martell Mallett: The Giants have waived/non-football injury S Chad Jones and waived/injured HB Martell Mallett.

Jones suffered a catastrophic leg injury injury in an automobile accident shortly after he was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Giants. Jones was at practice last night and received an ovation from the players after Head Coach Tom Coughlin introduced him during the post-practice team huddle.

“It was really nice to see Jones,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “I looked over and saw this big guy over there and I said that son of a gun looks like Chad. He looks great and sounds good. He is saying that he is about 70% and that he has some sense or motion in some of those key areas. It would be a great, great thing for this kid to come back and play. Everybody feels bad for him but yet you can’t miss the attitude that he has because he has had it since day one when he was laying in The Hospital for Special Surgery. His attitude was tremendous and he was going to come back.”

Jones said his goal is to return to the practice field in the Giants’ 2012 training camp. “I still see myself as a New York Giants football player,” Jones said. “It’s nothing but motivation seeing all these guys out here run around, guys I played with, so I definitely see myself as a football player…It’s just a funny feeling, you know you’re supposed to be out there with those guys. It motivates me even more.”

August 1, 2011 New York Giants Training Camp Reports: Practices continue at Giants Training Camp at the Timex Performance Center outside the New Meadowlands Stadium. BBI fan reports are available in the Training Camp section of the website. In addition, check out the following:

Injury Report: Both WR Ramses Barden (ankle) and OC Adam Koets remain on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) List.

Koets said he is suffering from tendonitis. “It’s a day to day thing, so I don’t know (when I’ll be back),” Koets said. “It’s nothing too serious. I’ll be ready to go.”

Amukamara Still Holding Out: Giants’ first-round draft pick CB Prince Amukamara is still holding out. He is the lone unsigned Giants’ draft pick from the 2011 NFL Draft.

“We don’t think that is going to last, the holdout,” said Jerry Manager Jerry Reese. “It is a little bit of a language difference interpretation for us and his representative. We are still working on that. We don’t anticipate that being a long holdout or we don’t expect it to get contentious in any way.”

New York Giants Free Agent Rumors: The Giants reportedly worked out unrestricted free agent HB/FB Jason Snelling (Atlanta Falcons) yesterday before the team re-signed HB Ahmad Bradshaw.

Unrestricted free agents TE Kevin Boss and WR Steve Smith remain unsigned.

“We have an offer out to Steve (Smith) and all the reports I get is he is progressing nicely,” said General Manager Jerry Reese. “And he is getting healthy. We are not sure what his timeline is to get back on the field.”

“We made Kevin (Boss) an offer and it is kind of a wait-and-see game and we will see where it goes,” Reese said.

Quotes: General Manager Jerry Reese on the Giants’ salary cap situation: “We’re in good position right now. Obviously you can create more room but we don’t want to borrow from Peter to pay Paul because you can end up in cap hell and we don’t want to be there. We’re in good position. I don’t know if we are right under at this point. We have some more business to do but we can get under. We will be compliant when it’s time.”

Reese on if the Giants will add another wide receiver: “We don’t need another receiver after missing out on Plaxico Burress. We have good receivers right now on our roster. If we don’t get any more receivers, I think we can go into the season and do well with the receivers that we have.”
