WR Steve Smith to Visit Giants: Unrestricted free agent WR Steve Smith will reportedly visit the Giants early this week. One of the topics of discussion will surely be his health status since Smith is coming off of microfracture surgery on his knee.

The Daily News is reporting that the Giants are only offering Smith a 1-year contract with incentives, but Smith is seeking more. The Star-Ledger is reporting that currently Smith does not have visits scheduled with other teams.

Giants Sign TE Daniel Coats: The Giants have signed unrestricted free agent TE Daniel Coats, who was recently waived by the Denver Broncos.

Ben Patrick May Return: Twenty-six year old TE Ben Patrick, who was surprisingly placed on the Giants’ Reserve/Retired List on Saturday, may return to the team at some point. Apparently Patrick is dealing with some personal family issues.

“I decided (Friday) night that I needed to step away to handle some personal issues and some family issues,” said Patrick from his home in Arizona. “I’ve got some issues that I need to work through and, obviously, that much of a distraction wouldn’t allow me to perform and prepare in football like I need to. I decided to step away for awhile to handle these personal and family issues. There are some things that I have to handle and need to handle, and I need to step away from the game. I appreciate everybody’s support but also ask for a little privacy until these matters are resolved.”

“Just as I was beginning to move forward, I began to realize that things were going to be too much of a distraction to prepare the way you need to prepare in the NFL,” said Patrick. “Right now, I’m just sorting through some things and figuring out my next move. Hopefully, I’ll be able to return (to the Giants) sooner rather than later.”

Training Camp Practice Reports: Practices continue at Giants Training Camp at the Timex Performance Center outside the New Meadowlands Stadium. BBI camp reports and the camp schedule are available in the Training Camp section of the website. In addition, check out the following:

Injury Report: WR Mario Manningham (ankle), WR Domenik Hixon (knee), and LB Clint Sintim (knee) returned to practice. Hixon will continue to be kept out every other practice in order to rest his surgically-repaired knee. The true may be same for Sintim.

WR Devin Thomas (finger) might be out a while. The bone in the finger reportedly broke through the skin. “I’m sure it will be until the time when they feel like he’s not going to gain some kind of infection because of the taping, untaping, showering, all that,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “So, let’s face it, it’s a bad spot for a receiver because there are an awful lot of things that Devin could be doing out there other than that. It’ll be a while, it’ll be a while.”

Also missing practice were OC Jim Cordle (knee), DT Marvin Austin (hip flexor), LB Spencer Paysinger (groin), CB Prince Amukamara (foot), S/CB Brian Jackson (back), S Cary Harris (shoulder), and PK Lawrence Tynes (sore quad).

Amukamara will have surgery soon to insert a screw in his foot. “I can’t put pressure on it right now,” said Amukamara. “I can hobble a little bit, but I can barely even do that.”

CB Joe Burnett left practice early with a hamstring injury.

Both WR Ramses Barden (ankle) and OC Adam Koets (knee) remain on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) List.
