January 31, 2012 New York Giants Injury Report: The first practice for the Giants in Indianapolis will be today, but there was some updated injury news yesterday.

LB Jacquian Williams (foot) is out of his boot and he says he is feeling better. “It’s better,” Williams said. “It is a day-to-day thing. But I will be there (on Sunday)…(The boot) was a precaution thing. I’ll practice. Whether I will be limited or not, I don’t know.”

WR Hakeem Nicks (shoulder) is also feeling better. “It feels a lot better this week,” Nicks said. “I’m just trying to go out there and play and have a good week of practice. There should be no setbacks. It’s not sore or anything. The rest helped out a lot with just my shoulder and just my body in general. I just took a couple of practices off and then would come out this week and be ready to go.”

Finally, TE Jake Ballard (knee) says he is also feeling better. “It is still a little tweaked,” Ballard said. “It feels a lot better than it has in a long time. I am running well and I am running a lot better than I have in the last three or four games.”

Head Coach Tom Coughlin was asked about Ballard’s potential impact. “Huge,” replied Coughlin. “Jake’s feeling better. He’s been a big part of what we do. He received an injury, fought his way through the injury. He is maneuvering better, playing better. That being that case, Eli has a lot of confidence in Jake…He was struggling a little bit, but he’s got a great heart and he did everything he could to help us a win.”

Quotes: Offensive Coordinator Kevin Gilbride on QB Eli Manning: “When people talk about toughness, they talk about linebackers or a fullback – they don’t think of the quarterback. But it’s a totally different makeup.  You’re not inflicting the blow.  The willingness to stand in there and focus on your job, which is delivering the pass, and knowing that you’re going to get hit is a different kind of courage.  And Eli definitely possesses it.  As a coach, you appreciate the toughness that he shows and his willingness to do whatever it takes to win the game.”
