Giants Reduce Roster to 53: The Giants reduced their roster from 75 to 53 yesterday, as mandated by NFL rules.

CB Terrell Thomas (knee) and DT Shaun Rogers (blood clot) were placed on season-ending Injured Reserve. Since Thomas is due a $6 million option bonus in March 2013, his career with the Giants may be over.

S Tyler Sash, as expected, was placed on the Reserve/Suspended List.

CB Bruce Johnson (shoulder) was waived/injured.

The contracts of the following five players were terminated: HB D.J. Ware, WR Isaiah Stanback, OC Chris White, DT Marcus Thomas, and CB Dante Hughes.

The following players were waived: QB Ryan Perrilloux, WR David Douglas, WR Dan DePalma, TE Larry Donnell, OT Matt McCants, OT/OG Selvish Capers, OG Stephen Goodin, DE Craig Marshall, DE Matt Broha, DT Dwayne Hendricks, LB Greg Jones, LB Jake Muasau, and CB Laron Scott.

“It’s always difficult to release players that have been here and have really worked hard and have earned our respect and our admiration,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “Those are guys like Dwayne Hendricks, who I have great respect for, and DePalma, who has worked hard for us for a couple of years and has done a good job. Isaiah Stanback is another guy who has done an outstanding job here and worked hard and really gained our respect.”

“Greg Jones was a very difficult decision to make,” Coughlin said. “Danny Ware was here for a while and any time you have those relationships with people, it’s tough to see them go. Fortunately, these are men and they understand that decisions have to be made.”

Newcomers to the 53-man roster include five draft picks (HB David Wilson, WR Rueben Randle, CB Jayron Hosley, TE Adrien Robinson, and DT Markus Kuhn), one rookie free agent (DE Adewale Ojomo), one first-year player (S Will Hill), three veteran free agents (TE Martellus Bennett, OT Sean Locklear, and S Stevie Brown), and one player obtained by trade (LB Keith Rivers).

“(Ojomo) is a perfect example of a young man for whom preparation meant opportunity and he succeeded,” Coughlin said. “He worked and he worked and he worked and he enjoyed playing. He got confident. He sized up the opponent and he made timely, timely plays throughout the entire preseason. He played on special teams. He earned the opportunity to have his spot.”

Because of these moves, we have updated the Transactions, Roster, and Depth Chart sections of the website.
