Martellus Bennett Signs With Chicago Bears: Unrestricted free agent TE Martellus Bennett has signed a 4-year deal with the Chicago Bears. Bennett joined the Giants as a free agent last offseason and finished the year with career highs in receptions (55), yardage (626), and touchdowns (5).

Giants Bring Back Aaron Ross: Though not official, according to press reports, the Giants have agreed to terms with CB Aaron Ross, who was recently released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. No terms of the deal are yet available. Ross was drafted by the Giants in the 1st round of the 2007 NFL Draft but signed with the Jaguars in free agency last March.

Giants Re-Sign HB Ryan Torain: According to press reports, the Giants have re-signed unrestricted free agent HB Ryan Torain. Torain was eligible to be a restricted free agent by the Giants but was not tendered. No terms of the deal are yet available.

More Free Agent Rumblings: Free agency officially began yesterday at 4PM. Here is the latest:

  • Unrestricted free agent WR Domenik Hixon has received a contract offer from the Detroit Lions.
  • The Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers are reportedly interested in unrestricted free agent OG Kevin Boothe.
  • The Cowboys are rumored to be interested in unrestricted free agent LB Chase Blackburn.
  • The Giants are reportedly one of four teams interested in unrestricted free agent OG/OC Matt Slauson (New York Jets).
  • The Giants are rumored to be one of eight teams interested in CB DeAngelo Hall, who was recently released by the Washington Redskins.
  • DT Chris Canty, who was released by the Giants last month, has signed a 3-year, $8 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens.

Correction – Tracy and Cordle Have Not Re-Signed Yet: Contrary to an earlier report in The Bergen Record, it appears exclusive rights free agents DE Adrian Tracy and OC Jim Cordle have not re-signed with the Giants yet. However, both players were tendered by the Giants and as long as both remain tendered, as exclusive rights free agents, they are guaranteed to re-sign with the Giants.

Giants Hire Offensive Coach: Though not officially announced, the Giants have reportedly hired former University of Albany quarterback and Princeton assistant coach Ryan Roeder as a their new offensive quality control coach. The Star-Ledger is reporting that Roeder spent three years at Princeton, coaching tight ends and special teams.

The Giants’ offensive quality control position became vacant in January when Assistant Offensive Line Coach Matt Rhule became Temple’s new head coach and Lunda Wells was promoted to that job.
