Former Giants WR Steve Smith Retires: Former Giants WR Steve Smith, who played with the Giants from 2007-2010, announced his retirement yesterday after six seasons in the NFL. The 28-year old Smith played briefly with the Eagles (2011) and Rams (2012) before signings with the Buccaneers in the offseason. Smith never really recovered from a knee injury he suffered with the Giants in 2010.

“I’ve been blessed to play the game that I love at the highest level for the past six years,” Smith said. “I will always cherish my time with the New York Giants and our Super Bowl victory in 2007.”

Giants Reportedly Sign TE Chase Clement and LB Kyle Bosworth: Though not officially announced, the Giants have reportedly signed undrafted rookie free agent TE Chase Clement (LSU) and unrestricted free agent LB Kyle Bosworth (Jaguars). The Giants had agreed to contract terms with Clement immediately after the 2013 NFL Draft, but Clement apparently failed his initial physical with the Giants and was sent home at the start of the rookie mini-camp on May 10. Bosworth eligible to be a restricted free agent, but was not tendered by the Jaguars.

If these signings are confirmed today, the Giants will have to cut two players to make room for them on the 90-man offseason roster.

Giants Work Out Fullbacks: According to USA Today, the Giants worked out unrestricted free agent fullbacks Mike Cox (Falcons) and Tony Fiammetta (ex-Patriots) as well as a few unidentified others. None were signed, at least not immediately.
