GIANTS SIGN MICHAEL HUNTER TO ROSTER; MYKKELE THOMPSON TO IR…
The New York Giants have placed safety Mykkele Thompson on Injured Reserve with a knee injury that he suffered during Sunday’s victory over the New Orleans Saints. The team also signed cornerback Michael Hunter to the 53-man roster from the team’s Practice Squad.

Thompson was drafted in the 5th round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Giants. He missed all of his rookie season after rupturing the Achilles’ tendon in his right foot during the preseason.

The Giants originally signed Hunter as an undrafted rookie free agent after the 2016 NFL Draft. Hunter has a nice combination of size and speed. He is a physical, press corner who was up-and-down during the 2016 preseason for the Giants.

GIANTS TO SIGN OFFENSIVE TACKLE TO PRACTICE SQUAD…
Though not officially announced yet, ESPN is reporting that the New York Giants will sign offensive tackle Laurence Gibson to the Practice Squad. Gibson was originally drafted in the 7th round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He has spent time with the Cowboys (2015), Chiefs (2015), Falcons (2016), and Bears (2016). He has yet to play in a regular-season game. Gibson is a very athletic lineman with good height and long arms. A better testing athlete than football player so far, Gibson needs to play with more strength and power.

BYRON STINGILY WAIVED FROM INJURED RESERVE…
The New York Giants have waived offensive tackle Byron Stingily from Injured Reserve. Stingily was placed on Injured Reserve on August 30 with a concussion. Stingily was originally drafted in the 6th round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. The Titans waived him in September 2015 and he then signed with the Steelers in October 2015. The Giants signed Stingily as an unrestricted free agent in April 2016.

NEW YORK GIANTS RE-SIGN WILL BEATTY…
Though not officially announced, the New York Giants have re-signed offensive tackle Will Beatty. The contract is reportedly a 1-year deal that includes $1.1 million in guaranteed money and $750,000 in incentives. Beatty was released/failed physical by the Giants in February.

Beatty had two years left on his contract before the Giants cut him in February. He was scheduled to make $6.625 million in salary in 2016 and count $9.175 million against the 2016 salary cap. Cutting Beatty in February saved the Giants $4.175 million against the cap with $5 million in dead money.

Beatty was placed on the Reserve/Physically-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) List in September 2015 as he was still recovering from surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle he suffered in May lifting weights. He remained on the PUP the entire season as a rotator cuff injury that required surgery also became an issue. Beatty started all 16 games at left tackle for the Giants in 2014 and had a solid season. He rebounded from a terribly inconsistent 2013 season, as well as a fractured tibia that he suffered in the regular-season finale at the end of that year. Since Beatty was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Giants, he has had issues staying healthy, including a broken foot in 2010, a detached retina in 2011, a back injury that caused him to miss offseason work in 2012, the broken leg in 2013, and the pectoral tear and rotator cuff injuries in 2015.

Beatty is a big lineman with long arms and a very good athlete. When on top of his game, Beatty can mirror and slide with the best pass rushers, and is athletic enough to pull and engage defenders at the second level in the run game. However, Beatty is more of a finesse player. He does not play with a lot of strength and power and he is not a very physical or aggressive blocker. Beatty still has consistency issues.

NEW YORK GIANTS SIGN BYRON STINGILY…
The New York Giants have officially signed unrestricted free agent offensive tackles Byron Stingily (Pittsburgh Steelers). Following up on yesterday’s updates, the Giants have also officially confirmed the signing of unrestricted free agent running back Bobby Rainey (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and unrestricted free agent linebacker Kelvin Sheppard (Miami Dolphins).

The 27-year old, 6’5”, 318-pound Stingily was originally drafted in the 6th round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. The Titans waived him in September 2015 and he then signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in October 2015. In five seasons, Stingily has played in 20 regular-season games with nine starts (eight at right tackle and one at tight end). Stingily is an athletic lineman with good size. He plays more of a finesse, positional game. A better pass protector than run blocker, Stingily is not a physical player.

GIANTS SIGN GUARD RYAN SEYMOUR…
Though not officially announced, the New York Giants have signed unrestricted free agent offensive guard Ryan Seymour (New Orleans Saints).

The 26-year old, 6’4”, 305-pound Seymour was originally drafted in the 7th round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Since then, he has spent time with the Seahawks (2013), San Francisco 49ers (2013), Cleveland Browns (2014), Chicago Bears (2015), and New Orleans Saints (2015). Seymour has played in 11 games with just three starts. Seymour lacks ideal size, but he is a strong, smart, blue-collar over-achiever. Versatile, he has played all five offensive line spots.

KELVIN SHEPPARD VISITS GIANTS…
ESPN reports that unrestricted free agent linebacker Kelvin Sheppard (Miami Dolphins) visited the New York Giants on Monday.

The 28-year old, 6’2”, 249-pound Sheppard was originally drafted in the 3rd round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. He was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in April 2013 and signed with the Dolphins in September 2014. In five NFL seasons, Sheppard has only missed three regular-season games, starting 45 contests. In 2015, he started 13 games and finished the season with 105 tackles and two pass defenses. Sheppard has good size, but he’s a journeyman who doesn’t make many game-changing plays.

BYRON STINGILY AND BEN IJALANA VISIT GIANTS…
FOX Sports reports that unrestricted free agent offensive tackles Byron Stingily (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Ben Ijalana (New York Jets) visited the New York Giants on Monday.

The 27-year old, 6’5”, 315-pound Stingily was originally drafted in the 6th round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. The Titans waived him in September 2015 and he then signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in October 2015. In five seasons, Stingily has played in 20 regular-season games with nine starts.

The 26-year old, 6’4”, 322-pound Ijalana was originally drafted in the 2nd round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. His once-promising career was waylaid by ACL tears in 2011 and 2012. The Jets claimed him off of waivers in September 2013. Ijalana has played in just seven NFL games with no starts.
