August 20, 2008 New York Giants Injury Update: WR Amani Toomer (leg), WR Steve Smith (hamstring), WR Mario Manningham (quad), and CB Sam Madison (sports hernia) returned to practice yesterday.

Regarding the return of Toomer, Smith, and Manningham, Head Coach Tom Coughlin said, “We are glad to have them out here. We need them out here. They need to be out here, they need to be out here. Hopefully, they will be stronger and ready to come right back tomorrow…Everybody needs to work, you need to work with the quarterback, you need to be on the field, you need to establish some consistency, some reliability, and that is what we need.”

WR Plaxico Burress (ankle) was involved in individual drills, but did not participate in the team portion of practice.

DE/DT Justin Tuck (foot), LB/DE Mathias Kiwanuka (groin), LB Jonathan Goff (back), WR Brandon London (shoulder), WR David Tyree (knee/PUP), QB Anthony Wright (back), and PK Lawrence Tynes (knee) did not practice. Goff and Tyree did some running.

CB Terrell Thomas (hamstring) was limited.

HB Kay-Jay Harris Waived: The Giants waived/injured HB Kay-Jay Harris (ankle/foot), who was hurt in the game against the Browns.

Giants Sign Safety Miguel Scott: The Giants signed rookie free agent S Miguel Scott yesterday. Scott had originally been signed by the Giants after the 2008 NFL Draft, but was waived in June.
