Giants’ Beat Writer Practice Reports: The following are brief practice reports provided by the NY/NJ beat writers who cover the Giants:

Injury Update – Rocky Bernard Finally Off NFI List: DT Rocky Bernard (hamstring) was finally activated off of the Non-Football Injury (NFI) List yesterday and he practiced on a limited basis. “We’ll see, he’s very limited,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin of Bernard. “I mean he’s only got a small percentage of plays, but just to have him out there and get him started.”

WR Steve Smith (knee) and CB Corey Webster (hip) returned to practice.

CB Aaron Ross (hamstring) practiced in the morning, but did not in the evening. “I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it,” Ross said. “It is frustrating. It is very frustrating. You are sitting out there. I can walk. I can jog. I can do everything that makes it seem like it’s OK. But as soon as I go out there, it lets you know you are not ready…A hamstring, you rush them back and you end up hurt again. I think right now, talking it over with the doctors, the thing is to have me healthy by Week 1. I want to be out there playing, so I am torn between going out there practicing and playing, and trying to get the feel before Week 1. But the other side is I would be jeopardizing me being healthy in Week 1.”

LG Rich Seubert (shoulder) practiced but RG Chris Snee (knee) did not. “(Snee has) got a little swelling in there and they want to get that swelling out of there once and for all,” said Coughlin.

Still not practicing is DT Chris Canty (hamstring). “No, they’re not giving me any word on that,” said Coughlin. LB Michael Boley (hip) remains on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) List.

MLB Antonio Pierce (sore foot) and S Kenny Phillips (sore knee) did not practice in the evening.

Notes and Quotes: According to the Giants, PK Lawrence Tynes has hit 25-of-30 field goal attempts in training camp.

DT/DE Chris Canty on how he is doing despite not practicing for most of training camp due to a hamstring injury: “Getting settled in a little bit. Still a few more adjustments I got to make. Obviously right now I’m not practicing so I’m losing a little bit of time. I’m trying to take mental reps, get my body in good physical condition, getting extra lifts, trying to learn as much as I can on film about this defense and the scheme we play and how to execute it.”
