Details on Giants-Saints Trade Talks Involving Barry Cofield: The Star-Ledger is reporting more details from the previously rumored draft day trade talks between the Giants and Saints concerning defensive tackle Barry Cofield.

According to the paper, the Giants were not shopping Cofield, a restricted free agent, around the League. However, when the Saints offered their 2nd round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft (64th selection overall), the Giants listened, especially since Cofield may hit free agency as an unrestricted free agent in 2011.

The Star-Ledger reports the deal fell apart when Cofield and the Saints could not agree on a new contract. The paper says both sides were never close on financial terms.

The Star-Ledger also claims that Cofield is no longer on the trading block. And apparently General Manager Jerry Reese has adequately explained the situation to Cofield.

Giants Re-Sign WR Derek Hagan: According to the NFLPA, restricted free agent WR Derek Hagan has signed his 1-year, $1.176 million tender with the Giants.

The Giants have only one unsigned restricted free agents: DT Barry Cofield. However, the deadline for restricted free agents to sign offer an offer sheet from another team has passed. Cofield will re-sign with the Giants before June 15.

Danny Clark Signs With Texans; C.C. Brown Signs With Lions: Unrestricted free agent linebacker Danny Clark has signed with the Houston Texans. For the past two seasons, Clark has served as the Giants’ starting strongside linebacker.

Meanwhile, unrestricted free agent safety C.C. Brown has signed a 1-year deal with the Detroit Lions. Brown had been a restricted free agent, but the Giants rescinded their tender on April 1st when the team signed safety Deon Grant.
