General Manager Jerry Reese’s Thursday Press Conference: The transcript of yesterday’s press conference with General Manager Jerry Reese is available at Giants.com. Reese made comments on the following players:

  • TE Christian Hopkins: “Christian Hopkins is a big kid that we like – practices hard every day – that our coaches like and think he has some potential to come in and compete for a job as well. He’s a big kid. He’s at least 6-5, about 275 pounds and he works hard every day at practice. He’s endeared himself to our coaches with how hard he works and he has soft hands, catches the ball nice.”
  • WR Jerrel Jernigan: “Jernigan did a couple of things for us. He came on a little bit late and helped us in the return game some. We do think he’s going to be a good receiver for us as well.”
  • OT James Brewer: “Brewer, he’s a big athlete. It takes offensive linemen, sometimes, a little longer than others, but we have high-hopes for him that he can come in next year after he’s been through a whole season.”

Tuck is Debating Shoulder Surgery: DE Justin Tuck said yesterday he may have offseason surgery on his injured shoulder.

“We are still debating that,” said Tuck. “I might have to have surgery on my shoulder, maybe. But we don’t know yet. Honestly, you don’t want to have surgery so we are doing everything we can in our power not to have surgery.”

Cruz Seeking Raise: Not unexpectedly, WR Victor Cruz, who is currently under contract through the 2012 season, is looking for a hefty pay raise from his base $490,000 salary next season.

“I think I was paid, you know, relative to where I came in this year and, you know, I came in as a free agent so that’s the salary I was on, so I don’t feel like I was underpaid,” said Cruz. “I mean, I feel like after my performance this year, you know, I feel like I deserve to be paid more money at this point. But that’s something I’ll let my agents and those people take care of and I’ll just go out there and play the game.”

“We’re in the early stages of our evaluating the team as a whole, individually,” said General Manager Jerry Reese. “We have not yet discussed anything with respect to salaries.”
