Jerry Reese Talks Tight Ends: New York Giants General Manager Jerry Reese spoke briefly to the press at the NFL owners meetings in Florida. Reese was asked about the tight end position since the only tight ends currently under contract on the team’s roster are Larry Donnell, Adrien Robinson, and Daniel Fells.
“(Tight end) still might present itself to us,” Reese said. “If there is somebody available, we’ll look at it and if something happens in the draft, we’ll look at that way as well. There is a long way to go.”
There has been speculation since before free agency started that the Giants may be interested in unrestricted free agent tight Jermichael Finley (Green Bay Packers) given Finley’s ability and connection with new Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. McAdoo once coach Finley as his position coach in Green Bay. However, Finley is still recovering from a spinal injury and has not yet been cleared by doctors.
After signing 10 new players in free agency and re-signing nine, the Giants appear to be mostly done in free agency. The 2014 NFL Draft will take place on May 8-10.
“We’ll see,” said Reese. “We’re always trying to create competition at every position. We still have work to do.”
