REPORT – EAGLES INTERESTED IN STEVE SPAGNUOLO…
According to the Philadelphia Daily News, new Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Doug Pederson’s top choice to be his defensive coordinator is Steve Spagnuolo, the New York Giant’ current defensive coordinator. After a successful tenure with the Giants as defensive coordinator in 2007-2008, Spagnuolo was re-hired by New York in January 2015 after Defensive Coordinator Perry Fewell was fired.

However, Spagnuolo’s return to the Giants in 2015 was not successful. His defense finished 32nd in the NFL in 2015. The 6,725 yards allowed was the third-worst in NFL history.

Spagnuolo has strong ties to Philadelphia, having served as an assistant coach there for eight years (1999-2006). Because Spagnuolo has one year remaining on his current contract, the Giants have the ability to block the move. Nevertheless, Giants team President and CEO John Mara said recently that he prefers to retain coaches who want to remain with the Giants.

During interactions with the media last week, while both Mara and new Head Coach Ben McAdoo would not confirm the definite retention of Spagnuolo, both did make remarks suggesting he would be back.

Despite the fact the Eagles have beaten the Giants 13 times in the last 16 games, they have demonstrated a lot of interest in New York’s coaches. Both former Head Coach Tom Coughlin and McAdoo interviewed with the Eagles for their once vacant head coaching position.
