September 23, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: Other than the players on Injured Reserve, the only player to not practice on Tuesday was LB Devon Kennard (hamstring).

WR Odell Beckham (hamstring), LB Jon Beason (foot/ankle), CB Zack Bowman (quad), OT Charles Brown (shoulder), OT James Brewer (back), and P Steve Weatherford (ankle) practiced on a limited basis.

“(Beckham) practiced, did some individual,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “It wasn’t the most extensive of individuals, but he did that. His load is to increase as he goes along now.”

“(Beason) practiced today,” said Coughlin. “We look at him every morning and see how he feels and so on and so forth. He did okay today and we’ll see what it’s like tomorrow.”

September 17, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: Not practicing on Wednesday were WR Odell Beckham (hamstring), LB Jon Beason (foot/ankle), LB Devon Kennard (hamstring), and P Steve Weatherford (ankle).

Head Coach Tom Coughlin did not completely rule out Beason practicing this week. “I wouldn’t put anything past this guy, but he’s not going to practice today,” said Coughlin.

Beckham is running more aggressively, but it does not sound like he will practice this week. “Not to my knowledge,” responded Coughlin when asked if Beckham would practice. “Not with the team. He’ll be right there learning, etc., etc., working on the side, but he won’t take any snaps.”

OT Charles Brown (shoulder) and OT James Brewer (back) practiced on a limited basis.

DT Markus Kuhn (ankle) fully practiced.

Giants Sign LB James Davidson to the Practice Squad: The Giants have signed linebacker James Davidson to the Practice Squad. Davidson was originally signed by the Cincinnati Bengals as a rookie free agent after the 2014 NFL Draft. He was waived on August 26. Davidson was an undersized collegiate defensive end who projects to linebacker at the pro level. Whether he has the overall athleticism and instincts for the position remains to be seen. Obviously, he is a project. Because of this move, we have updated the Transactions and Roster sections of the website.

September 9, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: P Steve Weatherford (ankle), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (neck), and LB Devon Kennard (hamstring) all were injured in Monday’s game against the Detroit Lions.

No, I don’t have anything yet (on Weatherford),” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin on Tuesday. “He is getting the MRI’s, but I haven’t got anything.”

On Pierre-Paul, Coughlin said, “Well, I am sure we will monitor it, but he really felt good after the game and this morning, as well. We will list him as limited, but I think the fact he came back and played, played with good energy, finished the game, didn’t seem to have any issues, I think that is a good sign.”

Notes: The Giants lost their fourth consecutive season opener, the longest such streak in franchise history.

The 21-point margin was the largest in a Giants opening-game defeat since they fell to Dallas, 35-0, on Sept. 4, 1995, and their largest in an opening game on the road since a 31-2 defeat at Dallas on Sept. 19, 1965.

New York Giants Name 2014 Team Captains:  On Thursday, New York Giants players elected five of their teammates to be team captains for the 2014 NFL season. The five players are QB Eli Manning, WR Victor Cruz, LB Jon Beason, S Antrel Rolle, and long snapper Zak DeOssie.

It is Manning’s eight consecutive year as a captain, DeOssie’s fourth, and Rolle’s second. Cruz and Beason are first-time captains. They take the place of 2013 captains OG Chris Snee and DE Justin Tuck.

“I’m hoping we have 53 that take full responsibility and accountability for our team, pride in our team,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “But I think the players have spoken in terms of who they have chosen to be in the leadership position as captains. We’ve spent a lot of time talking about leadership. The unselfish commitment to team, and ‘team first’ must come from your captains, and your captains must be young men who put the team above themselves. They must be young men who lead not only by what they say, but by their example – more significantly by their example. And they also, because of the nature of our business, they reflect what they do say by what they do on the field.

“The attempt to put all personalities in, to create ‘team,’ is a constant job that we all take on. We’ve been working at this since the first gathering point in the spring. But it certainly does help, because the number one thing is trust. The players do feel they can go to these five men and trust what they say and whatever they say and however they choose to lead will be in the best interest of the entire team.”

September 5, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: Not practicing on Friday were WR Odell Beckham (hamstring), OT James Brewer (back), and DT Markus Kuhn (ankle).

Jon Beason (foot), OG Brandon Mosley (back), and OT Charles Brown (shoulder) practiced on a limited basis.

BigBlueInteractive.com (BBI) Updates: In case you missed it, articles from BBI today:

August 18, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: Not practicing on Monday were RB Peyton Hillis (ankle/foot), TE Kellen Davis (Achilles strain), TE Xavier Grimble (hamstring), OT James Brewer (back), OT Charles Brown (shoulder), LB Jon Beason (PUP – foot), CB Prince Amukamara (groin), CB Jayron Hosley (foot), CB Ross Weaver (ankle), and S Cooper Taylor (foot).

Amukamara was examined by doctors who did not think his injury required an MRI. “It feels better than it did yesterday,” Amukamara said. “Yesterday I would have given it a 6 or a 7 on a scale of 1-10. Today it’s more like a 3 or a 4. I’m hoping to play as soon as possible.”

“I don’t know how good it is to have a corner with a strained groin, but he walked out here in pads,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “That told me something about where his mind is. He wants to get back out here and get going. Hopefully that will happen sooner than later.”

“Davis just has some kind of an Achilles strain or something that’s sore, tendonitis, something of that nature. I expect him back. I expect Brewer back, too,” said Coughlin. “Brewer, his back is bothering him, so they held him.”

WR Trindon Holliday (hamstring) participated in some special teams drills.

DT Mike Patterson (shoulder) and TE Daniel Fells (knee) returned to practice.

WR Odell Beckham (hamstring) participated in some team drills but left practice early after he reportedly was hit in the back of the leg. The Giants insist he is “fine.”

August 14, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: Not practicing on Thursday were RB Peyton Hillis (ankle/foot), WR Trindon Holliday (hamstring), TE Daniel Fells (knee), TE Xavier Grimble (hamstring), and LB Jon Beason (PUP – foot).

“(Fells) is not out here,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “He started back, but we couldn’t get him all the way back. We are supposed to have him next week.”

FB John Conner (concussion) worked in individual drills.

WR Odell Beckham (hamstring) participated in individual and some team drills.

“(Beckham) is not going to play (on Saturday against the Colts),” said Coughlin. “Expect him next week, but not this week. There is not enough work…We have had him for individuals and we have had him for a few plays. When the few plays are run, he looks to be doing fine, but like everybody, they need more repetition, more time on the field. They need to be in that fatigued state to see how they perform then. We need all of those things to take place.”
