Jon Beason Out for the Season: The New York Giants confirmed on Monday that linebacker Jon Beason will undergo surgery on his injured right foot. Beason will be placed on Injured Reserve and miss the rest of the 2014 NFL season.

“Let’s get him right,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “We got the guy on the field, he tried it, it actually became a little bit different kind of an injury but the same area. He gave it everything he had and he had the doctor’s approval. Unfortunately, it didn’t work.”

Beason suffered a ligament tear and fracture to the sesamoid bone in his right foot during an OTA practice on June 12. He aggravated the injury in Week 2 against Arizona and Week 7 against Dallas. He missed three games after the game against the Cardinals.

October 27, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: Aside from LB Jon Beason (foot), not practicing on Monday were RB Rashad Jennings (knee), RB Peyton Hillis (illness), DT Cullen Jenkins (calf), and LB Spencer Paysinger (illness).

“He’s not ready to go,” said Head Coach Tom Coughin of Jennings. “He’s day-to-day.”

“I just need to get to the point where I can get back to cutting,’’ Jennings said. “Right now it’s linear, then eventually we’ll get to side to side.”

“(Hillis is) sick,” said Coughlin. “We’ve got a couple of guys. I’m telling you, these vacations are no good. They come back, they’re throwing up. They probably caught it from the kids or something. We’ve got two or three of them that are… (Spencer) Paysinger same way. He’s sick too.”

CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (back/hamstring) and OG Geoff Schwartz (toe) were limited.

“(Rodgers-Cromartie) was out there,” said Coughlin. “Last week we were encouraged because of the number of treatments that he got. We’ll have to see…I thought there was (improvement). He did some plays and took some plays where he didn’t work. I think it’s a little better than it was, but whether or not it’s ready to be where we would want it to be, I don’t know.”

October 13, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: WR Victor Cruz (torn patella tendon) and CB Trumaine McBride (thumb) will need surgery. Cruz’s season is over and he faces a long road back from a serious and potentially career-threatening injury.

Coughin was asked if McBride’s season was also over. “That will be decision we will have to make here,” replied Coughlin.

CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie left the game with a back injury that is apparently related to the previous ankle/hamstring (“IT band”) issue. “I would hope that we can figure out some way to try to take care of (DRC’s) medical issue,” said Coughlin. “If it has to be this week, fine; if it isn’t, it will be after this game here with the bye in front of us. That is a medical decision that is going to have to be made.”

October 8, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: RB Rashad Jennings (knee) and LB Spencer Paysinger (hamstring) did not practice on Wednesday.

“There’s progress,” Jennings said. “The strength is coming back quickly, the healing is coming rather quickly. I’ve just got to continue to stay the course.”

CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (ankle/hamstring), LB Jon Beason (foot/toe), and P Steve Weatherford (left ankle) practiced on a limited basis.

“I practiced full speed today,” Rodgers-Cromartie said. “I was out there running around and felt good.”

Contrary to the Giants’ official injury report, Rodgers-Cromartie says his knee has been the issue. “I was getting my knee looked at,” said DRC. “My main problem was my knee. This whole right side, but I’m good.”

Chandler Fenner and Julian Talley Back on Practice Squad: The New York Giants have re-signed CB Chandler Fenner and WR Julian Talley to the Practice Squad. Both were waived from the 53-man roster on Monday when CB Jayron Hosley and RB Michael Cox were added.

“We had a limited number of snaps that (Beckham) went through and he did some really nice things today,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “We’ll just have to see how it turns out later this afternoon and tomorrow.”

“(Beckham has) been in every meeting,” said Coughlin. “I would expect him to know everything. I wouldn’t shy away from (limiting him in the game plan). He’s demonstrated an ability to handle whatever’s thrown at him. He’s done that throughout, so I would expect that. Now, under fire with adjustments and signals and things of that nature, we’ve got to see where we are with regard to that, too.”

September 23, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: Other than the players on Injured Reserve, the only player to not practice on Tuesday was LB Devon Kennard (hamstring).

WR Odell Beckham (hamstring), LB Jon Beason (foot/ankle), CB Zack Bowman (quad), OT Charles Brown (shoulder), OT James Brewer (back), and P Steve Weatherford (ankle) practiced on a limited basis.

“(Beckham) practiced, did some individual,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “It wasn’t the most extensive of individuals, but he did that. His load is to increase as he goes along now.”

“(Beason) practiced today,” said Coughlin. “We look at him every morning and see how he feels and so on and so forth. He did okay today and we’ll see what it’s like tomorrow.”

Giants Place OG Geoff Schwartz on Short-Term IR; Sign OG Adam Snyder: The New York Giants placed left guard Geoff Schwartz on the Designated-to-Return Injured Reserve (or short-term IR) on Wednesday. Schwartz dislocated his right big toe in the preseason game against the Jets on August 22. He will be eligible to practice six weeks from today and return to game action in eight weeks, meaning his first possible game will be two months against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 9 after the Giants’ bye week. In effect, Schwartz will miss at least seven games, or nearly half the regular season.

To fill Schwartz’s roster spot, the Giants signed OG Adam Snyder, who was waived by the San Francisco 49ers on August 30. Snyder was originally drafted in the 3rd round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. During his career, he’s played eight seasons with the 49ers (2005-11, 2013) and one with the Arizona Cardinals (2012). Snyder is extremely versatile, having starting experience at all five offensive line positions.  He’s started 87 regular-season games in nine seasons. However, despite having very good size, Snyder was considered the weak link of the starting units in San Francisco and Arizona in recent years.

Because of these moves, we have updated the Transactions, Roster, and Depth Chart sections of the website.

New York Giants Add DT Dominique Hamilton to Practice Squad: The New York Giants have signed DT Dominique Hamilton to their Practice Squad. The Giants have now completely filled up their 10-man practice squad.

Hamilton originally signed with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted rookie free agent after the 2012 NFL Draft. The Raiders cut him and was on NFL practice squads in 2012 (Redskins) and 2013 (Redskins and Chiefs). The Chiefs waived him in August 2014. Hamilton looks the part with excellent size and long arms. He’s not overly quick or agile. Hamilton is a better run defender than pass rusher.

Because of this move, we have updated the Transactions and Roster sections of the website.

[contentblock id=1 img=html.png]

New York Giants Add TE Jerome Cunningham to Practice Squad: Though not officially announced, the Giants have added TE Jerome Cunningham to the Practice Squad. The Giants have now filled nine of their 10 available Practice Squad vacancies.

Cunningham played college football at Southern Connecticut State University from 2009-2012, but he was not with an NFL team in training camp until August 2014 when the Giants signed him. He did try out with the Indianapolis Colts in May 2013 and Arizona Cardinals in May 2014, but was not signed by either team. Cunningham lacks ideal size for the position; he’s built more like an H-Back. But he is a good athlete who catches the ball well.

Because of this move, we have updated the Transactions and Roster sections of the website.

September 1, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: Not practicing on Monday were WR Odell Beckham (hamstring), LG Geoff Schwartz (toe), and OG Brandon Mosley (back).

Head Coach Tom Coughlin was asked if there was any chance that Beckham might practice this week. “I doubt that very much,” said Coughlin. “Let’s just let this kid get better. Everybody settle down and let the kid get better. I mean, I went to him and said, ‘Let’s not have any more setbacks.’ Whatever it takes to get over this, let’s do this. Let’s encourage him, let’s not let him feel like he is an outsider, let’s get on with it. But, I mean, to talk about him every day. I will let you know when he is ready to do something, I will let you know.”

“Because it is every day it is the same question over and over,” continued Coughlin. “He is not ready to play. He may be a couple, three weeks away, so we are not going to talk about him. We have a game to play. Can we talk about the guys playing in the game, instead of people that are on the injury report. Thank you for bearing with me on that one.”

“I have no idea (when I will practice),” said Beckham. “We don’t have any (timetable), that’s something you have to ask Coach or the trainers really.”

“I would say that (Mosley) is much better than he was before the start of the weekend, or whatever day this is, and if he continues to make that kind of progress, perhaps he will be able to practice later in the week,” said Coughlin.

LB Jon Beason (foot), CB Prince Amukamara (groin), OT Charlie Brown (shoulder), and OT James Brewer (back) returned to practice.

“Yeah, I fully participated today and I felt good,” said Beason. “Guys told me I looked really fast out there. Obviously, I should, with fresh legs. It was hot, but you just keep going. The will has to be greater than the pain. You have to fight through it, knowing that every rep is a rep getting closer to playing.”

New York Giants Add OT Mark Asper to Practice Squad: The Giants have added OT Mark Asper to the Practice Squad, filling eight of the 10 available Practice Squad vacancies. Asper was waived by the Giants on Saturday. Because of this move, we have updated the Transactions and Roster sections of the website.

BigBlueInteractive.com (BBI) Updates: In case you missed it, articles from BBI today:

August 26, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: Not practicing on Tuesday were WR Odell Beckham, Jr. (hamstring), WR Trindon Holliday (hamstring), OG Geoff Schwartz (toe), OG Brandon Mosley (back), OT James Brewer (back), OT Charles Brown (shoulder), DT Markus Kuhn (ankle), LB Jon Beason (PUP – foot), and CB Prince Amukamara (groin).

The Giants received relatively good news on Schwartz, who was being examined by Dr. Robert Anderson on Monday. Schwartz will not need surgery to repair his dislocated right big toe. Schwartz will be in a boot for 7-10 days before beginning a rehabilitation program. After that, he availability will be determined on a week-to-week basis.

“This is just a minor setback,” said Schwartz. “I plan on attacking the rehab program so I can get back on the field as soon as possible with my teammates and help us win games.”

“He is very optimistic and hopefully it is going to mean the recovery is going to be as fast as possible,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “You know how I am. I hear the news and I say, ‘Okay, let’s see how this goes.’ Obviously you can’t rush him back but it sure would be good to get him back ASAP rather the other way around. It is not going to be easy for him. He is a big man.

I hope (Mosley returns soon),” said Coughlin. “He is up and moving, so that is a good sign…All I know is that hopefully (Mosley and Brewer) both will be back as soon as possible. They both feel better today.”

“I think (Amukamara) is (making good progress),” said Coughlin. “He is feeling pretty good.”

Brandon McManus Traded to Denver Broncos: The Giants announced Tuesday morning that they had waived PK Brandon McManus, along with making 14 other roster moves. However, before that paperwork was finalized, the Denver Broncos made the Giants an offer and traded for McManus. Though not officially announced, the pick is believed to be a conditional 7th round selection in the 2015 NFL Draft.

“I think Brandon will kick in this league,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “He’s a very powerful young man. Needs a little bit of work on the finer kicks, but certainly he demonstrated his ability to kick it through the back of the end zone.”

August 14, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: Not practicing on Thursday were RB Peyton Hillis (ankle/foot), WR Trindon Holliday (hamstring), TE Daniel Fells (knee), TE Xavier Grimble (hamstring), and LB Jon Beason (PUP – foot).

“(Fells) is not out here,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “He started back, but we couldn’t get him all the way back. We are supposed to have him next week.”

FB John Conner (concussion) worked in individual drills.

WR Odell Beckham (hamstring) participated in individual and some team drills.

“(Beckham) is not going to play (on Saturday against the Colts),” said Coughlin. “Expect him next week, but not this week. There is not enough work…We have had him for individuals and we have had him for a few plays. When the few plays are run, he looks to be doing fine, but like everybody, they need more repetition, more time on the field. They need to be in that fatigued state to see how they perform then. We need all of those things to take place.”
