He spent most of his rookie season on the team’s Practice Squad and 2021 on Injured Reserve. Crawford suffered a groin injury in the 2022 preseason finale and received settlement when he was released from Injured Reserve in early September.

GIANTS TRADE KADARIUS TONEY TO CHIEFS…
The New York Giants have traded wide receiver Kadarius Toney to the Kansas City Chiefs, pending his physical with the Chiefs. The Giants will receive two picks in the 2023 NFL Draft: a late 3rd-round compensatory pick and a 6th-round pick. The compensatory pick is the one the Chiefs will receive for losing Ryan Poles to the Chicago Bears as their new general manager. Poles had been the Chiefs’ executive director of player personnel.

“We’re moving on, I wish Kadarius well,” Head Coach Brian Daboll said before practice. “We just made a decision that we thought was best for the team.”

Toney has missed the last five games, supposedly with injuries to both his hamstrings. However, Toney mockingly tweeted after the trade that he was not injured (he since deleted that tweet). The Giants had no official reaction to that claim.

The Giants drafted Toney in the 1st round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Toney only played in 12 of 24 regular-season games for the team. Toney’s rookie season was virtually wiped out due to multiple health issues, including two bouts with COVID and hamstring, ankle, thumb, quad, oblique, and shoulder injuries. Toney did play in 10 games, with four starts, but he finished the year with just 39 catches for 420 yards and no touchdowns. In his two games in 2022, Toney had two catches for no yards.

GIANTS SIGN LANDON COLLINS TO PRACTICE SQUAD…
The New York Giants have signed safety Landon Collins to the Practice Squad to fill a void created with inside linebacker A.J. Klein signing with the Baltimore Ravens.

The 28-year old, 6’0”, 218-pound Collins was originally drafted in the 2nd round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Giants. He spent four years with the Giants, being named to the Pro Bowl three times from 2016-2018 and All-Pro in 2016. Collins signed a 6-year, $84 million contract with the Washington Redskins in 2019. Washington cut him in March 2022. Collins has started every game that he has played, 94 total. In 2021, he started 13 games for Washington and was credited with 81 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. The strength of Collins’ game is run defense as a hybrid safety/linebacker. He struggles in coverage.

Klein was signed to the Giants’ Practice Squad on Monday. The 6’1”, 240-pound Klein was originally drafted in the 5th round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. He has spent time with the Panthers (2013-2016), New Orleans Saints (2017-2019), and Buffalo Bills (2020-2021). The Bills cut him in March 2022. Klein has played in 134 games with 80 starts, including 15 starts for the Bills from 2020-2021.

SEPTEMBER 9, 2022 NEW YORK GIANTS INJURY REPORT…
WR Sterling Shepard (Achilles), OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux (knee), OLB Azeez Ojulari (calf), and S Dane Belton (clavicle) were all limited in practice on Friday. Thibodeaux and Ojulari have been officially been designated as “doubtful” for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans. Belton is “questionable” while Shepard is expected to play.

Just need to see (Thibodeaux and Ojulari) be able to do the things they need to do without the pads on: the movement skills, the holding the edge,” said Head Coach Brian Daboll before Friday’s practice.  “If we have to work them out before the game, we’ll work them out before the game if that’s something we need to do. But we’re going to give them as long as they can to see if they are ready to go… I think you’ve got to put the player’s health and safety first and foremost… So, if they’re ready to go, they’ll be ready. And if not, the other guys will.”

PRACTICE SQUAD MOVES…
The New Orleans Saints have signed offensive guard Wyatt Davis off of the New York Giants’ Practice Squad. To fill that vacancy, the Giants signed offensive tackle Roy Mbaeteka to the Practice Squad.

The Giants signed Davis to the Practice Squad on September 1st. The 6’4”, 315-pound Davis was originally selected in the 3rd round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. Davis spent time on both the 53-man roster (6 games with no starts) and Practice Squad as a rookie. The Vikings waived Davis in late August 2022.

The Giants signed Mbaeteka in April 2022 as part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program (IPP). The team waived him in late August. The 6’9”, 320-pound Mbaeteka is from Nigeria. He has no high school or collegiate experience playing football.

The Giants will save $1.575 million against the 2022 salary cap. The new contract will allow Slayton to possibly earn back additional money with playing-time incentives.

GIANTS RE-SIGN SANDRO PLATZGUMMER TO THE PRACTICE SQUAD…
The Giants have re-signed running back Sandro Platzgummer to the Practice Squad. Platzgummer was waived by the team from the 53-man roster on Monday. As part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program, Platzgummer will not count against the team’s 16-player Practice Squad limit. The 6’0”, 198-pound Sandro Platzgummer was originally allocated to the Giants in April 2020 as part of the NFL’s international program. He also spent all of 2020 and 2021 on the Giants’ Practice Squad. Platzgummer played for the Swarco Raiders Tirol of the Austrian Football League. He has yet to play in a regular-season game.
