June 15, 2006 New York Giants Injury Report: As reported yesterday, FS James Butler will not practice during the ongoing three-day mini-camp due to a kidney condition. However, Head Coach Tom Coughlin says the condition is not serious and that Butler should be ready to practice by the time training camp starts in late July.

SLB LaVar Arrington (Achilles tendonitis) missed the morning practice, but did practice in the afternoon. Coughlin says he is not concerned with the injury and that the Giants are merely being cautious so the injury doesn’t develop into something more serious, causing him to miss time in training camp. “I’m fine,” Arrington said. “We are just being smart about it. I’m learning, taking a lot of mental reps, having a good time with the fellas and I practice once a day, until I get some of the soreness out of my Achilles heal, that’s all…Everybody thought I’d have trouble with my knee; I haven’t had any trouble with my knee. I just think my body’s rebalancing itself out and different areas get sore at times. We’re just being safe about it…It’s one thing for people to get nervous that I’m not running around right now. It’s another thing if I really hurt myself. Then it’s another story.”

FS Will Demps (knee) and WLB Brandon Short (knee) continue to practice once per day.

New York Giants Sign German Safety Claudius Osei: As part of the NFL’s International Practice Squad Program, the Giants have signed S Claudius Osei of Hamburg, Germany. Under the three-year-old program, this year each NFC East and AFC North team has been assigned one player to spend the season on the Practice Squad.

Notes: The Giants will not have to make special concessions for P Jeff Feagles after all in 2006. It had been widely reported that Feagles was considering retirement unless the Giants allowed him to travel back to see his family in Phoenix, Arizona on a regular basis during the season. The Giants agreed to let him do so. But Feagles has decided to move his family back to New Jersey for the upcoming season.

WR Amani Toomer spent much of his offseason in Las Vegas, doing yoga and working with a track coach.
