New York Giants Super Bowl Ring:  The Giants publicly unveiled the design of their Super Bowl XLII ring yesterday.  The rings will be manufactured by Tiffany & Co. and feature white gold, diamonds, and three Super Bowl trophies – one for each Giants’ Super Bowl victory.  In addition to the trophies, the top of the ring includes the “ny” logo and the words “World Champions”.  On one side, sandwiched between each player’s name and number will be the phrase “Eleven Straight on the Road”.  The other side will include the Super Bowl XLII logo, the final score, and the date of the game.

The design included input from team President/CEO John Mara, Chairman/Executive Vice President Steve Tisch, General Manager Jerry Reese, Head Coach Tom Coughlin, and a four-player committee of QB Eli Manning, DE Michael Strahan, WR Amani Toomer, and OC Shaun O’Hara.

“I think as players we went (to the meetings) and thought that we were there as a token invitation, but they really wanted our input,” said O’Hara.  “The important thing for me was the three Lombardi Trophies signifying the three Super Bowl championships of the Giants.  Obviously, I like the fact that the ‘NY’ logo is right front and center, and that and the Lombardi Trophies are the first thing you see.  The other thing that I like is that on the side of the ring it says, ’11 Straight on the Road.’  That is something that we were able to accomplish, and I don’t think we really realized until the season was over how big of a deal that was.  That was something that was very crucial to our season.  That really did become our battle cry.  People had dubbed us the road warriors and all sorts of other things, but it is something that we are really proud of and I think we are going to be happy to have that on the ring.”

“There was some discussion about maybe one of the rings was too big,” said O’Hara.  “I threw out the fact that it was a big win, it was a huge win, so the ring should be designed accordingly.  Michael (Strahan) said it best when he said he wanted a 10-table ring (to be able to see the ring from 10 tables away in a restaurant).  I think everybody is going to be very pleased with the design.  It is very clean, very classy, but at the same time it is very strong.”

Tiffany & Co. manufacturers the NFL Vince Lombardi Super Bowl Trophy at its workshop in nearby Parsippany, New Jersey.  “It is Tiffany’s privilege to partner with the NFL in the creation of the Vince Lombardi Trophy and its annual presentation on Super Bowl Sunday,” said Michael Kowalski, Chairman and CEO of Tiffany & Co.  “Every trophy represents a hard-fought season capped by the ultimate win, but Super Bowl XLII has special significance.  Not only was it one of the greatest games ever played, it was won by our hometown team, the New York Giants, whom we now salute with a commemorative ring and our thanks for a performance on the field that no Giants fan, or football fan anywhere, will ever forget.”

The rings will be presented to the players and coaches at a private ceremony later this spring.

QB Jared Lorenzen Signs His Tender:  According to The Daily News, restricted free agent QB Jared Lorenzen has signed his 1-year, $927,000 tender offer.

Restricted free agent S James Butler remains the only Giants’ free agent of note.  Butler was tendered at the $1.47 million level.  If another team signs him to an offer sheet and the Giants choose not to match, that team would have to give the Giants their 2nd round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Visit to White House Tentatively Scheduled:  The Giants’ visit to the White House in celebration of their Super Bowl victory has been tentatively scheduled for April 30.
