Giants Lose Steve Smith to the Eagles: Unrestricted free agent WR Steve Smith has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. The contract is supposedly a 1-year, $4 million deal with $2 million in guaranteed money. The Daily News is reporting that the offer was far higher than the Giants were willing to pay while The Star-Ledger is reporting that the Giants were not given the chance to match the offer.
“Unfortunately the business aspect proved that the Eagles wanted me to be part of their organization MUCH more than the Giants did,” Smith posted on his Facebook page.
Smith, who is coming off of microfracture surgery on his left knee, visited the Eagles yesterday after visiting with the Giants and being examined by the Giants’ doctors. Head Coach Tom Coughlin said earlier in the day that Smith would likely not be able to play for some time.
“I would disagree with that,” said Smith after he signed with the Eagles. “Personally, I feel good. I’ve been running, cutting. I’m not sure how far I am from playing. I think I’m pretty close.”
Michael Johnson Signs With Lions: Unrestricted free agent S Michael Johnson has signed with the Detroit Lions. The Giants did not tender Johnson before the lockout so it is assumed they were not interested in retaining his services.

Injury Report: Missing practice yesterday were TE/H-Back Travis Beckum (hamstring), WR Sam Giguere (groin), OC Jim Cordle (knee), LB Clint Sintim (knee), CB Prince Amukamara (foot), CB Joe Burnett (hamstring), and S/CB Brian Jackson (back).
Amukamara underwent surgery on his fractured foot.
WR Devin Thomas (finger), OT James Brewer (lower leg bruise), DT Marvin Austin (hip flexor), and LB Spencer Paysinger (groin) returned to practice.
Both WR Ramses Barden (ankle) and OC Adam Koets (knee) remain on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) List.
