August 20, 2012 New York Giants Injury Report: Not practicing yesterday were HB Andre Brown (unknown), TE Travis Beckum (PUP – knee), OT Will Beatty (back), DT Chris Canty (PUP – knee), DE Adrian Tracy (hamstring), DT Marvin Austin (back), DT Shaun Rogers (blood clot), LB Michael Boley (hamstring), CB Terrell Thomas (knee), CB Jayron Hosley (toe), CB Michael Coe (hamstring), and CB Brandon Bing (hamstring).

Canty did some running on the side during practice.

Hosley is still wearing the protective boot. “Hosley’s sore and they’re trying to do as much as they can to keep him off his feet,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin.

Tracy said he could be out a couple of days to a week. Coe said he hopes to return on Tuesday or Wednesday.

“Beatty’s still struggling,” said Coughlin.

“Marvin (Austin) seems to be getting better and I think there’s a question of the type of the medication that he’s on and whether or not he can practice under that circumstance,” said Coughlin. “Hopefully there will be more clarity about that situation.”

“(The trainers want) to see how I’m feeling, and then to just access it from there,” said Austin. “There’s a time period that even if I feel good, they still don’t want me to mess with it…As long as I keep working and keep getting better, and keep controlling it, I should be good…What I’m hearing from the trainers and everyone else, everything looks on the bright side…I couldn’t tell you exactly (when I will return to practice).”

HB Ahmad Bradshaw (hand) was limited in practice. “I think he could do more,” said Coughlin. “I mean, he’s obviously sore, he’s got some swelling in his hand, but his hands are well protected. So, I think this is precautionary.”

WR Hakeem Nicks practiced (on a limited basis) with the team for the first time since breaking his foot in May during Organized Team Activity (OTA) workouts.

“Yep, big day,” said Nicks before practice. “Going out there and practice. I’m excited. You know I did a little bit of stuff last week individually, but that’s all they would let me do. Today, I get to do some reps with the team, team period, stuff like that…I think right now they’re thinking 50%, so take a couple snaps each period. They want to ease me back into it.”

“I still don’t know (if they will let me play in the preseason),” said Nicks. “They’ll see how it goes this week in practice, and then let me go out this Friday, but I think it’s going to be based on team doctors and coach’s decision, and I’m all for whatever they decide. I know they’ll decide whatever is best for me.”

“(Nicks) seemed to be pretty good,” said Coughlin after practice. “He seemed to feel good and moved around well and did a good job with it…I don’t know (if he’ll play in the preseason), we’ll see. We’re going to go slow to make sure that there’s never a setback. He’s very anxious to do more, but we’ll go slow.”

After missing more than two weeks, LB Jacquian Williams (hip) returned to practice on a limited basis. “(Williams) seemed to move around well. He didn’t have any issues,” said Coughlin. Williams said he wasn’t sure if the Giants would let him play on Friday.

LB Mark Herzlich (hip) practiced after leaving the Jets’ game early.

DE Justin Tuck downplayed his neck and/or shoulder injury despite appearing to leave the Jets game in some discomfort and signaling for the trainers. “I’m good,” said Tuck. “I know a lot people asked me why I put the ice on my shoulder, I’m just getting ahead of it. Coming off that second surgery, anytime I get the opportunity to get the inflammation out, I’m going to do so. My shoulder felt great. If you look at the Jacksonville game I did the same thing. and if y’all could be in the locker room after games in the regular season, I’m going to do the same thing. it’s just a precaution, I guess.”
