The purge in the player personnel department of the New York Giants continues. A day after we learned of the firing of Director of College Scouting Chris Pettit and Senior Personnel Executive Kyle O’Brien, the team has also now fired Senior Pro Scouting Executive Ken Sternfeld and Senior Pro Scout/Football Systems Analyst Matt Shauger.

Sternfeld was originally hired by the Giants in May 2002 after spending 21 years with the New England Patriots in a variety of capacities, primarily in scouting. From 2012-2021, Sternfeld served as the Giants’ director of pro personnel. Last May, he was shifted to the newly-created position of senior pro scouting executive. According to the team’s media guide, Sterneld was “heavily involved in player evaluations, including players released during and after training camp, practice squad players, and free agents.” He also assisted in scouting opponents.

Shauger was originally hired by the Giants in 2005 as a pro personnel intern. He became a pro scout in 2007 and served as assistant director of pro personnel for eight seasons (2013-2020). Shauger’s duties as senior pro scout and football systems analyst included evaluating NFL players and free agents. He also worked with the director of football data & innovation and the Giants’ development team to design and enhance the club’s scouting applications.
