Giants’ Beat Writer Practice Reports: The following are brief practice reports provided by the NY/NJ beat writers who cover the Giants:

Andre Brown Ruptures Achilles: HB Andre Brown, a promising player drafted in the 4th Round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Giants, ruptured his left Achilles’ tendon in practice yesterday evening. Brown will undergo season-ending surgery on Tuesday and be placed on Injured Reserve.

Eli Manning Deal Finally Official: The new 6-year contract extension for QB Eli Manning was finally made official yesterday. The contract will keep Eli under contract through the 2015 season. The new deal replaces his current contract, which had one year left on it. According to press reports, the new contract is a 7-year, $106.9 million deal.

“He’s our franchise quarterback, and we’ve been in the playoffs for the last four years, and he’s done everything we ask him to do, on and off the field,” said General Manager Jerry Reese. “The contract is signed, and we’re moving on.”

“I’m happy to be here, this is where I wanted to be,” Manning said. “The Giants, I feel, are one of the greatest organizations in the NFL and it’s an honor to be part of the Giants and play quarterback in New York. I worked hard to try and become a better player and done everything to help out the Giants. I’m excited to know that I will be here for six, seven more years.”

Injury Update: Not practicing in either practice yesterday were WR Sinorice Moss (hamstring), WR Steve Smith (knee), DT Chris Canty (hamstring), DT Rocky Bernard (hamstring), LB Michael Boley (hip), CB Corey Webster (hip flexor), and CB Aaron Ross (leg).

When asked about Moss, Head Coach Tom Coughlin responded, “He got a little hamstring, I guess. I don’t know how long. I don’t know how serious. I was kind of surprised myself.”

DE Osi Umenyiora (knee), and DT Barry Cofield (knee) did not practice in the morning, but did so in the evening.

DE Justin Tuck (foot), DT Fred Robbins (knee), and WR David Tyree (leg) practiced in the morning, but did not in the evening.

RT Kareem McKenzie (back) returned to practice.

Quotes: Cornerbacks Coach Peter Giunta and CB Bruce Johnson: “He’s been flashing the whole camp. He even flashed in rookie camp – that’s why we kept him when he was a tryout guy. He has great coverage ability and we’re very pleased with his progress.”

DE Justin Tuck on the Eagles signing QB Michael Vick: “Absolutely they got better. There are so many more options with him now. It’s kind of like what we’re trying to accomplish for with our defensive line. There are so many options for us, it makes it hard to game plan…If I had a Wildcat offense, as soon as he came available, I would have been chomping at the bit. Why not get a quarterback that’s probably just as good a running back as any other running back in this league and still can throw it? I think he is the ultimate guy.”
