December 1, 2010 New York Giants Injury Report – Diehl and Ross Practice on a Limited Basis: Not practicing yesterday were WR Hakeem Nicks (leg), WR Steve Smith (pectoral), OC Shaun O’Hara (foot), OL Shawn Andrews (back), and CB/Returner Will Blackmon (chest). Smith and O’Hara did do some limited work on the field in individual drills.

“Andrews is not ready,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin.

“I think they say O’Hara will do some running,” said Coughlin before Wednesday’s practice.

“I’m feeling a lot better,” said O’Hara.

“(Nicks) feels better, he’s doing better,” said Coughlin. “The doctor sees him (Wednesday night).”

“I think it is realistic (that I may be able to play against the Vikings in a week),” said Nicks. “I don’t want the scar to get infected. I think I will be OK by next week. Pretty much that is all it is, keeping the wound clean…I don’t think it will really bother me because I don’t really feel it much walking around much. They just want the scar to heal.”

“(Smith) is working towards getting back to where he feels good about himself and the medical people are ready to put him out, but as far as whether he’ll practice today, no,” said Coughlin before practice. “He’ll be on the side, but he’ll do more running and more extensive work and he has put the pads on and done that and hopefully the progress keeps going.”

“Felt good, it feels like my motion is there,” Smith said after catching a few passes in individual drills. “It is just a mental thing, a confidence thing now. (The Minnesota game) is something that I am really shooting for but who knows, might be feeling great tomorrow…I’m going to feel (the pectoral injury) for the rest of the season. It is kind of weak, especially weak when I move my arm across the body.”

OL David Diehl (hamstring/hip) returned to practice on a limited basis.

“Diehl is going to do individual and he’s going to take a couple of plays just to see what his status is,” said Coughlin before practice.

“I’m feeling a lot better,” said Diehl after practice. “I’m feeling much better than I did. Today was a step in the right direction. But there’s times when I feel great and there’s times when I can feel it and it reminds me that I have it. I’m just taking each day in stride and doing everything I can to hopefully play this weekend. Can I sit there and say I’m going to go Sunday or not? No. I just don’t know. But every day I keep feeling better and I keep continuing to do more. It’s positive. Everything is feeling good. Everything is going in the right direction.”

CB Aaron Ross (back) and DE Osi Umenyiora (knee) also practiced on a limited basis.

“(Ross has) had multiple tests,” said Coughlin. “He’s had all the internal organs tested. There is a strong feeling that there is some kind of a strain there – a back strain of some kind – and we’re continuing to try to make him comfortable with all of the various tests that have been done so that he is confident that he can go play…There was no kidney stone unless he passed it…He was discomforted the other day but he feels better today. He will practice and I hope he can get through a practice without having some discomfort.”

CB Brian Jackson (hand) fully practiced.
