August 28, 2006 New York Giants Injury Report: OC Shaun O’Hara (knee) and LT Luke Petitgout (back) returned to practice on a limited basis yesterday. “They did all right,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “They (seemed) to do all right. I’m sure it’s a ‘work your way back in really slowly’ kind of thing, but they seemed to work all right. They didn’t get many snaps, they didn’t get a whole lot, but what they got, they did ok.”

Not practicing were WR Sinorice Moss (quad), OC/OG Rich Seubert (toe), HB Derrick Ward (foot), and CB E.J. Underwood (shoulder). When asked if there were any new with Moss, Coughlin said, “Nope. You see him over there, riding the bike. The clock keeps running.”

Ward is currently in a walking cast and expects to start running in a couple of weeks.

The injury to Underwood does not sound good. “It’s a serious injury,” said Coughlin. “If he was able to come right back, he would have been out here.” The Star-Ledger is reporting that Underwood has a torn labrum, that he is expected to undergo surgery today, and that he will be placed on season-ending Injured Reserve.

Notes and Quotes: The Giants will announce their first roster cuts of the preseason today. All teams are required to cut down to a roster count of 75 players by this afternoon. Teams then must cut their rosters to the regular season limit of 53 players by 4:00PM Saturday. In addition to the 13 players speculated to have been cut already (see yesterday’s “News and Notes” update), HB Mike Jemison was not at practice yesterday and also may have been released.

Coughlin said the starters would only play about 10-12 snaps against the Patriots on Thursday.

LB LaVar Arrington on LB Carlos Emmons: “It’s real important to have him on the field with us. Carlos is a talent, so whenever you don’t have someone like that on the field with you, it hurts. He’s almost like having a coach on the field. That’s what he means to us…We want to get out there right from the beginning playing well and Carlos is a big part of that.”
