October 16, 2006 New York Giants Injury Report: Head Coach Tom Coughlin made the following comments regarding Giants injured against Atlanta during his Monday press conference: “We had just a couple of nicks. I don’t think anything that will keep anybody from working. (S Jason) Bell got a slight concussion. That’s why he didn’t finish. I think (HB Brandon) Jacobs got a little bit of a stinger. He has a little bit of a stiff neck today, but that’s about it.”

SS Gibril Wilson (toe) missed the game against the Falcons. “It’s a toenail that ripped right off,” said Coughlin. “He had to have a couple of sutures…It’s a very sore, very unusual injury, to have the toenail completely removed or come off with the guy just coming down on top of your foot. He is sore. Hopefully he’ll be able to control that, but we’ll see. I think it was more swelling than anything else, and the idea of infection. Hopefully we can get past that.”

Regarding other Giants who missed the game, Coughlin said, “I think we’re going to start to work (LB Carlos Emmons) back (into practice), yes. We’re going to see how that goes. (JB Derrick) Ward continues to work his way back. (WR Sinorice) Moss continues to have more time. Last week he did have some individual time and that should be extended, I hope, this week.”

Notes and Quotes: The players will be off on Tuesday and Wednesday and begin to prepare for Dallas on Thursday.

LB LaVar Arrington on the improved Giants’ defensive play: “I think (Defensive) Coach (Tim) Lewis is calling a lot of the same defenses, I just think that (the success) is a result of guys coming together and gelling and like we were telling everybody, it’s not a time to panic. We’re getting better. It might not have showed up early in the year, but we’re working hard to get better every week. I think it’s just starting to show.”

LB Brandon Short on playing against QB Michael Vick of the Falcons: “I admit I was very familiar with Vick after playing him twice a year in Carolina. The Falcons are big rivals (for the Panthers). But the Giants taught me how to play against him. Tim Lewis taught me.”

WR Plaxico Burress on the Atlanta Falcons: “I didn’t think Atlanta was a very good football team. Out of all the teams that we’ve played, they were probably the worst team. I don’t think any of us in there were surprised with us winning.”
