NFLPA Confirms Five More Undrafted Rookie Free Agent Signings: NFLPA.org confirms the following five undrafted rookie free agents have been signed to three-year contracts by the New York Giants:

  • LB Kevis Coley, University of Southern Mississippi
  • S Trevis Coley, University of Southern Mississippi
  • WR Anthony Mix, Auburn University
  • OG Tony Tella, University of Miami
  • OC Todd Londot, Miami University (Ohio)

That brings the total of confirmed undrafted rookie free agent signings to 14 (see “News and Notes” updates from May 5 and May 6). In addition to these 14, as we reported earlier, there are unconfirmed reports that the Giants have signed DE/LB Willie Evans (Mississippi State), LB Anthony Robinson (Carson-Newman), and TE/OL Jai Lewis (George Mason).

There are also a number of undrafted rookie free agents who have been invited to attend the Giants’ rookie mini-camp on May 13-15 without contracts, but who might receive contract offers based on their performance at that camp. The Courier Post is reporting that OL John Glass (Rutgers) is one of those players. We reported earlier that other such players include QB Ryan Hart (Rutgers), LB Barry Robertson (Louisiana Tech), and DE/LB Jon Simmons (South Florida).

Notes and Quotes: LG David Diehl told The Journal News that DT Jonas Seawright is “a pain in the neck to block.”

SLB LaVar Arrington on the Giants’ defense and his role in that defense: “The type of personnel we have, it allows us to do so many things. You’re going to see a lot of different looks from us…Coach (Tim) Lewis says he wants me closer to the ball. That means closer to the quarterback. Closer to the quarterback means…well, you know what that means. Hopefully, that equates to the quarterback going down…The plan is for me to be disruptive…(Coach Lewis is) pretty aggressive. I will be coming forward. Attack, attack, attack. Kill everything that moves.”

MLB Antonio Pierce on expectations heading into the 2006 season:
“Super Bowl — nothing less. I don’t know why we shouldn’t say that. Last year when I came, guys and Coach Coughlin made a point to let me know from the beginning that we want to win the NFC East. We passed that already. Now we can afford to think bigger. I think we kind of shorted ourselves heading into the season before we realized how good we were going to be. Now we know what we’ve got, so why not think about the Super Bowl? You like what you see on paper. But I’ve been on a couple of paper championship teams before. It’s all about going out and proving it. But it’s hard not to like the quality of depth we have now.”

CB Sam Madison on expectations: “We definitely have the talent here, we definitely have the mind-set here, we definitely have the leadership here. We’ve got to take that mind-set that we’re a paper champion, and go out and prove it.”

QB Eli Manning on the upcoming season: “I think on paper we’re probably a better team, but that doesn’t do a whole lot for you. It’s just a bunch of names placed in spots. We have a lot of talented guys on this team, which is a whole lot better than not having them. But it’s all about how you work together. I don’t like to make predictions about how we’ll do. I will say that we’re going to work hard, compete, have good practices and will be well-coached. Hopefully, that will help us win a few games…I look forward to the season. The goal during every offseason is to get better, have a better season than the last. Everyone here (for the offseason workout program) is working hard, and with the veteran mini-camps coming up you can feel the excitement of everyone anxious to get back on the field. You kind of get restless from just working out. You want to get the competitive edge back.”
