Antonio Pierce Lobbies Linebacker Lance Briggs: According to today’s Star-Ledger, LB Antonio Pierce has been lobbying his friend and ex-college teammate, LB Lance Briggs of the Chicago Bears, to consider signing with the Giants during the upcoming free agent period that begins on March 2nd. Pierce and Briggs played together at the University of Arizona. Briggs was recently voted to his second straight Pro Bowl as a weakside linebacker.

“I talked to (Pierce) about that,” said Briggs, “I told him, ‘If it doesn’t work out in Chicago, maybe.'”

Last offseason, Pierce lobbied for LB LaVar Arrington, his former teammate with the Redskins, to sign with the Giants – which he did.

The Ledger reports that one unidentified Giants’ player said Pierce reached out to Briggs on multiple occasions in recent weeks. The player said Pierce feels that the Giants need another play-maker at linebacker. However, the Bears may re-sign Briggs before March 2nd or protect him with a transition or franchise tag.

“That’s my guy,” Briggs said yesterday when asked about Pierce. “The two guys I’ve learned this game from more than anybody else player-wise are (Bears’ MLB) Brian Urlacher and Antonio Pierce. To see Antonio doing what he’s doing in New York is great. He goes undrafted – I don’t know why – but you watched him in college and you (could tell) the guy was a baller. And now, he’s doing exactly what he’s been doing the whole time.”
