New York Giants Targeting WR Darrius Heyward-Bey?: According to The Daily News, “two sources familiar with the team’s plans” have informed the paper that the Giants are interested in trading up in the first round in order to draft WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (University of Maryland).

Of course, The Daily News reported yesterday that the Giants were targeting WR Hakeem Nicks (University of North Carolina) in the first round, so we’ll see. There may be more smoke than substance to these reports.

“Sources” Continue to Say Edwards-to-Giants Trade Unlikely or Dead: According to various media reports, the once expected trade between the Giants and Browns for WR Braylon Edwards is not likely or will not happen. Whether this is true or posturing by the two sides should be answered shortly.

Newsday is reporting that an unidentified team source has in fact said the talks are dead. “We are nowhere,” said the source regarding trade talks. “At this point we are looking at the draft.” Newsday and The New York Post also report that the Giants and Browns have not been in much contact with each other since the NFL Combine in February. But Newsday then goes on to suggest that what is being said by “sources” may not necessarily be true and might be misdirection by the teams involved and the agent for Edwards (Edwards is seeking a new contract). Regardless, all press reports indicate a trade is unlikely at this point.
