September 23, 2009 New York Giants Injury Update – Justin Tuck Has Torn Labrum: According to press reports, DE Justin Tuck suffered a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder in the game against Dallas.

When asked about Tuck and WR Domenik Hixon (knee), Head Coach Tom Coughlin responded, “They’ll be day-to-day and hopefully by the end of the week, there will be some progress.”

Tuck had the same injury in college in 2003. “It’s a matter of soreness and strength,” Coughlin said. “Who knows, maybe he’ll end up having to wear a harness. That’s not a problem – we have a couple of guys doing that. He’s a little bit less sore today than he was yesterday.” (The Daily News reports that OG Rich Seubert is currently wearing a harness due to a shoulder injury suffered in training camp).

“I’ve felt better,” said Tuck. “Right now it’s just day to day, taking it one day at a time, just being smart about it…(I’ve made) tremendous, very encouraging (progress), but like I said, we’ll know a little bit more at the end of the week. Right now, it’s just one day at a time and we’ll see how it plays out…The main thing that we are talking about right now is this season is a marathon, not a sprint.”

Aside from Tuck and Hixon, also not practicing yesterday were DT Chris Canty (calf), CB Aaron Ross (hamstring), CB Kevin Dockery, S Kenny Phillips (knee), WR Hakeem Nicks (foot), and HB Danny Ware (elbow).

WR Mario Manningham (shoulder), LB Clint Sintim (groin), and OC Adam Koets (ankle) practiced on a limited basis.

Though nothing has been officially announced by the Giants, NFL.com is reporting that sources say Tuck and Canty will not play this weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Quotes: DE Justin Tuck on being injured by Cowboys’ LT Flozell Adams on an illegal tripping penalty: “It makes me hate the Cowboys a little bit more. You can write that I did say hate. I stand by what I said right after the game that it was a bush league play. You move on, that’s my plan, to move on…Normally, people go to the Pro Bowl for blocking people, not tripping people. So maybe he should keep his feet on the ground. We’re not going to get into a war of words here, we are going to let it be what it is, and I’ll see Flozell when we play them again.”

DE Osi Umenyiona on how he played against the Cowboys: “Not well. It wasn’t up to my standards at all. I played like (bleep)…I can’t fool myself. Sunday can’t get here soon enough. I wish today was Saturday.”
