Day One of New York Giants Mini-Camp: Day one of the Giants’ three-day, full-squad mini-camp is now in the books. Two practices were held yesterday, including one open to the public. Two more practices will be held today and one more on Thursday. None of the remaining practices are open to the public.

Injury Update – Hixon Injured: WR Domenik Hixon injured his knee during the afternoon practice when his foot got caught in the new stadium turf. It is not yet known how serious the injury is. “I’m not sure yet – we’ll see,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin about Hixon’s injury. “This turf kind of snagged his foot. We are hoping that it is not something serious. I think he will be sore tomorrow. The extent of it, I’m not sure right now. Domenik is a tough guy, now. He has fought his way through some things in the past. Hopefully, this is not something serious.”

Not practicing yesterday were TE Kevin Boss (offseason ankle surgery), OG/OC Kevin Boothe (offseason pectoral surgery), DT Jay Alford (knee), and S Kenny Phillips (still recovering from knee surgery).

“(Alford) tweaked his MCL the other day,” said Coughlin. “He tripped, so we are better off just holding him.” The knee is the same one that required season-ending knee surgery last year.

“I went down and somebody fell on it,” Alford said. “It’s a minor setback. It’s not major, but they want to take safety precautions. I should be a hundred percent by (training) camp…I’m just glad it wasn’t torn or anything. It was scary, though.”

“(Phillips) is getting better every day,” said Coughlin. “You just have to have great confidence that he wants it so badly I think he can hopefully overcome anything. He is making steady progress. And we still have the very good circumstance that he does not swell. But his running has increased. He is doing some change of direction a little bit. That is a good thing.”

“I’m doing some of everything – cutting, covering, backpedals, opening,” said Phillips. “(There has been) no swelling, no pain. Everything’s good.”

Coughlin was also asked about HB Andre Brown, who ruptured his Achilles tendon last year. “He is getting there,” replied Coughlin. “He does have, occasionally, a little bit of a setback. But he has worked his way through a lot of it.”

WR Hakeem Nicks (offseason toe and wrist surgery) fully practiced.
