Eli Manning Agrees to Re-Structure Contract: According to press reports, in an accounting move designed to create immediate cap relief for the Giants, QB Eli Manning has agreed to re-structure his current contract.

Manning had been scheduled to earn $10.75 million in base salary in 2012. The Giants have now guaranteed $9 million of that salary, which allows the team to spread the cap hit over the four remaining years left on his current contract.

The net effect of all of this is that Manning’s overall 2012 cap number fell from $16.35 million to $9.6 million, “saving” the Giants $6.75 million in cap space this year.

However, Manning’s cap hits will increase $2.25 million in the last three years of his current contract: 2013 ($20.85 million), 2014 ($20.4 million), and 2015 ($19.75 million).

Giants Re-Sign TE Jake Ballard and CB Bruce Johnson: According to the NFLPA, the Giants have re-signed TE Jake Ballard and CB Bruce Johnson. Each signed 1-year, $540,000 contracts. Ballard was scheduled to be an exclusive rights free agent and Johnson was scheduled to be a restricted rights free agent. Both are coming off of serious injuries. Ballard tore the ACL in his left knee in the Super Bowl and may not be able to play in 2012. Johnson tore his Achilles’ tendon in training camp.
