New York Giants Mini-Camp Ends: The third and final day of the New York Giants mandatory, 3-day mini-camp was held on Thursday. Practice was called after only a few minutes when rain started to fall. Head Coach Tom Coughlin chose not to continue practice within the team’s indoor facility.

The rookies will spend one more day at Quest Diagnostics Center. Players are off until scheduled to report to Quest Diagnostics Center on July 21 for the start of summer training camp.

New York Giants Sign OT DeMarcus Love and DT Everett Dawkins: The Giants have signed street free agents OT DeMarcus Love and DT Everett Dawkins. To make room for these two, the Giants waived OT Steven Baker and DT Eathyn Manumaleuna.

BBI scouting report on OT DeMarcus Love:

  • The Giants signed DeMarcus Love as a street free agent in June 2014. Love was originally drafted in the 6th round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings waived him in October 2013 and he was then picked up by the Jacksonville Jaguars, who waived him in June 2014. Love has a nice combination of size and athleticism. He needs to play with more nastiness and fire. He also needs to improve his overall technique in order to make it at the NFL level.

BBI scouting report on DT Everett Dawkins:

  • The Giants signed Everett Dawkins as a street free agent in June 2014. Dawkins was originally drafted in the 7th round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. The Dallas Cowboys signed Dawkins off of the Vikings Practice Squad in November 2013, but waived him three weeks later. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers then signed him to their Practice Squad. The Buccaneers waived Dawkins in June 2014. Dawkins is a 3-technique tackle who lacks ideal size, but he is quick and athletic and can be disruptive. He needs to add size and strength. Dawkins is not overly stout against the run. He needs to play with better leaverage.

Injury Update on LT Will Beatty and RB David Wilson: General Manager Jerry Reese was asked about LT Will Beatty, who broke his leg in the game against the Washington Redskins on Sunday. “We think he’ll be back and he’ll be ready to play next season. We do think that,” said Reese. “From early reviews, we think Will will be back. We think he will be back and hopefully he will be back and he can get going and have a good offseason as well. He didn’t play as well as we hoped he’d play. I think he’d own that as well. Hopefully he can get back, get healthy and go on and have a great off-season and be a good left tackle.”

Reese was also asked about the future status of RB David Wilson, who was placed on Injured Reserve in November with a potentially career-threatening neck injury.

“Those neck things, you have to wait around,” said Reese. “Those discs they have, sometimes they can shrink and it takes time for them to shrink. They did that and we’re waiting. At the beginning of the year, we’ll have another consultation with him, to see if surgery would be a possibility for him. That could be a possibility and if he has the surgery, I think the prognosis is that he’ll be ready to play next fall, if he has his surgery.”

Reese was then asked if the injury was career-threatening. “When you talk about necks, there’s always a possibility,” responded Reese. “We’re hopeful and the earlier reports that I’ve gotten, doctors do think they can fix this and he’ll be able to play…I think we’ll have to have some contingency plans at the running back position. I don’t think you go into the next season saying David Wilson’s going to be our number one, starting running back. I don’t think you can do that. The guy is coming off of a neck surgery, if he decides to have it.”

Giants Sign Eight Players to Reserve/Future Contracts: The Giants signed the following eight players to reserve/future contracts on Monday:

  • RB Kendall Gaskins
  • WR Marcus Harris
  • OT Steven Baker
  • DE Kendrick Adams
  • CB Travis Howard
  • CB Junior Mertile
  • CB Chaz Powell
  • CB Ross Weaver

All eight players ended the season on the Giants’ practice squad.

New York Giants Place Jim Cordle on Injured Reserve, Promote Stephen Goodin from Practice Squad: The New York Giants placed OC Jim Cordle on season-ending Injured Reserve on Tuesday. Cordle tore the patella tendon in his left knee in last Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. To fill Cordle’s roster spot, the Giants signed OG/OC Stephen Goodin from the Practice Squad.

Practice Squad Moves: The Giants signed OT Steven Baker to the Practice Squad. This is Baker’s third stint on the Giants’ Practice Squad this season. The Giants also terminated the Practice Squad contract of CB Brandon Jones, who the Giants had signed in early November.

The Giants’ defense has allowed 23 touchdowns in 11 games. Only seven defenses have been scored on less frequently.

Chris Snee, New York Giants (November 25, 2012)

Chris Snee Might Need Season-Ending Hip Surgery: According to various press reports, OG Chris Snee has a torn labrum in his left hip which is also impeding the joint. Snee had surgery on a torn labrum and bone spurs in his right hip in the offseason.

“This one has the pain, but he can’t move,” an unidentified source told Newsday. “If they don’t get the joint to move again, (surgery) is probably going to be the only option.”

“Yes, surgery is definitely an option,’’ an unidentified source told The New York Post. “The question is just if they can get the hip playable, like they did with the other one. He is a tough SOB, but if you can’t move, it doesn’t matter how tough you are. The last time, at least he was able to move.’’

Snee did not play in last weekend’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but the time off apparently has not helped much. “(There’s) not a lot of improvement from the treatments,” the Newsday source said. “It is not looking too good right now.”

Meanwhile, The New York Post is also reporting that OC David Baas, who did not play last weekend because of a neck injury, is unlikely to play this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles.

New York Giants Waive RB Da’Rel Scott and Sign OC/OG Dallas Reynolds: The Giants have signed OC/OG Dallas Reynolds, who started 14 games for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012. To make room for Reynolds, the Giants have waived RB Da’Rel Scott.

New York Giants Practice Squad Moves: The New York Giants have re-signed WR Marcus Harris to the Practice Squad. To make room for Harris, the Giants have terminated the Practice Squad contract of  OT Steven “Sam” Baker.

Articles on S Antrel Rolle:

Notes and Quotes: The Giants are last in the league in both offensive and defensive third down efficiency. They have converted 22.9 percent (11-of-48) of their third-down opportunities on offense. Meanwhile, Giants opponents have succeeded on 50 percent (30-of-60) of their third down attempts.

The Giants have allowed an NFL-high 146 points. Their opponents have scored at least 31 points in each of the first four games, the first time ever the Giants have allowed at least 31 points in four straight games in a single season.

S Antrel Rolle asking for fan support: “That’s something I want to ask for all of our great fans we have out there, just bring the enthusiasm, bring the excitement. We want to hear that loud noise, we want to hear that roar like we heard when we were making our Super Bowl run when we were playing against Atlanta. That was the loudest I’ve ever heard a stadium in my life. We need that same intensity from our fans. We know we haven’t given them much to get fighting for, to rah-rah-rah for, but just to bring it. We promise you we’re gonna bring our best.’’

September 24, 2013 New York Giants Injury Report: According to Newsday, the MRI taken on OG Chris Snee’s hip showed no new damage, but if the pain does not subside, other options would have to be considered, including season-ending Injured Reserve.

“The hope is that it calms down and lets him get back to playing to his standard,” an unidentified source told Newsday. “If it doesn’t calm down, we are going to have to do something.”

Snee had offseason surgery on his hip. He decided to delay the surgery until after the Pro Bowl so he could participate in that game and was on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) List until August 6.

Meanwhile, The Star-Ledger is reporting that FB Henry Hynoski’s shoulder fracture is serious and may be season-ending.

RB Andre Brown (fractured leg), who is on short-term Injured Reserve, says he’s ahead of schedule on his rehab. Under the short-term IR rules, however, Brown cannot be added to the 53-man roster until after Week 8.

New York Giants Practice Squad Moves: The New York Giants have re-signed OT Steven “Sam” Baker and signed LB Ty Powell to the Practice Squad.

To make room for Baker and Powell, the Giants have terminated the Practice Squad contracts of  DE Matt Broha and WR Marcus Harris.

Notes: The 2013 New York Giants have allowed an NFL-high 115 points and are the third team in the last 50 years to allow at least 35 points in each of their first three games.

The Giants have rushed for 133 yards in the first three games. This is the first time in team history that the Giants have had 60 or fewer yards on the ground in three consecutive games.

DT Marvin Austin, who was waived by the Giants in the last round of cuts in early September, has signed with the Miami Dolphins.

Andre Brown Placed on Short-Term Injured Reserve: The Giants have placed RB Andre Brown (fractured leg) on the Injured Reserve/Designated-to-Return List, or short-term Injured Reserve as it is more commonly known. Brown will not be able to practice for six weeks and he will not be allowed back on the active roster for eight weeks. Since the Giants have a bye in Week 9, Brown will basically be out until Week 10 of the regular season.

Teams can only use the IR/Designated-to-Return List option once per season.

Giants Sign Ojomo to 53-Man Roster; Add OL Steven Baker to Practice Squad: To fill the roster spot vacated by RB Andre Brown being moved to the Injured Reserve/Designated-to-Return List, the Giants signed DE Adewale Ojomo from the Practice Squad.

To fill Ojomo’s vacant spot, the Giants signed OL Steven “Sam” Baker to the Practice Squad.

Injury Update: Not practicing on Wednesday were OC David Baas (knee), OT David Diehl (thumb), and TE Adrien Robinson (foot).

FB Henry Hynoski (knee), WR Victor Cruz (heel), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (back), and DE Damontre Moore (shoulder) were limited in practice.

“It felt good,” said Cruz after practice. “I was out there just running. I can’t think about it when I’m out there playing. I just have to go, because that’s the way I play and that’s the way I approach it every day. It’s been feeling good. My heel has been feeling right and now I’m just worried about getting the timing down with Eli, getting my tempo back. We’ll see how it goes from there.”

“I’ve been getting better and better every day,” said Pierre-Paul after practice. “I have to get my conditioning up. That’s the main part on my end and my stance is back, but most of all I’ve been getting better every day…I’m still on track. By Friday, I should know if I’m playing or not.”

CB Jayron Hosley (ankle) fully practiced.

New York Giants Reportedly Will Place Andre Brown on Temporary Injured Reserve: Though not officially announced, according to various press reports, the Giants will place RB Andre Brown (fractured leg) on the Injured Reserve/Designated-to-Return List, or short-term Injured Reserve as it is more commonly known.

Once on this list, Brown will not be able to practice for six weeks and he will not be allowed back on the active roster for eight weeks. Since the Giants have a bye in Week 9, it would basically mean that Brown would be out until Week 10 of the regular season.

New York Giants Conduct Workouts, Possibly Add OL to Practice Squad: As is their usual practice during the season, the Giants worked out a fairly sizable group of veterans on Tuesday. The group reportedly included veteran running backs Jonathan Dwyer (ex-Steelers), Beanie Wells (ex-Cardinals), and Leon Washington (ex-Patriots); and offensive linemen Zebrie Sanders (ex-Bills) and Steven Baker (ex-Chiefs). Indeed, there are reports that Baker has actually been added to the Giants’ Practice Squad, though that has yet to be confirmed.

The Star-Ledger is also reporting that the Giants maintain interest in RB Tim Hightower (ex-Redskins). The Daily News is reporting that the Giants have reached out to the agents for running backs Ryan Grant (ex-Packers) and Kevin Smith (ex-Lions).
