August 19, 2013 New York Giants Injury Report: Head Coach Tom Coughlin provided the following injury updates on Monday afternoon when addressing the press via conference call:

  • OC David Baas suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee. “Well, it’s weekly,” said Coughlin. “That’s all I can tell you. It depends on how fast that whole injury and rehab goes. We say weekly and that’s probably the best I can do right now.”
  • WR Victor Cruz suffered a heal contusion. “We’ll see where he stands with that as the days go by,” said Coughlin. “He probably will not practice (on Tuesday), although I haven’t seen him. We’ll have to take that one as it comes.”
  • DE Justin Tuck strained a hamstring. “Justin Tuck has a mild hamstring and, again, who knows?” Coughlin said. “Come (Tuesday) morning, it may be that he can’t work at all and hopefully he’ll have an opportunity to do some things. That’s the word I have now.”

Coughlin also provided updates on the following players who did not play against the Colts:

  • FB Henry Hynoski (knee -PUP): “Hynoski has been working very well. They’re pleased with his work.”
  • S Antrel Rolle (ankle): “The projection is hopefully that we will have an opportunity to get Antrel on the practice field this week.”
  • DE Damontre Moore (shoulder): “He’s getting closer. According to the doctors, he’s not there yet, but he’s getting closer.”

August 14, 2013 New York Giants Training Camp Reports: The Giants held their 14th training camp practice on Wednesday afternoon at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. The next practice is on Friday from 1:30-3:45PM. For a complete training camp schedule and Giants.com Q&A guide, see the Training Camp section of the website.

Injury Update: Not practicing on Wednesday were RB Da’Rel Scott (shoulder), WR Jerrel Jernigan (soreness), WR Brandon Collins (hamstring), OT Chris DeGeare (ankle), DE Damontre Moore (shoulder), S Antrel Rolle (ankle), S Cooper Taylor (hamstring), FB Henry Hynoski (PUP – knee), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (PUP – back), and DT Markus Kuhn (PUP – knee).

Two days after spraining his ankle, Rolle was out of his walking boot on Wednesday. “The boot is for whimps, man,” said Rolle. “I’m not a whimp. Nah, I mean I’m just taking it as it goes. The first day was obviously the worst and I’ve been grinding til about three in the morning, since it’s happened. Just trying to get better. The training staff here, the medical staff, have been doing an exceptional job of just keeping me up to date, keeping the mobility. Strengthening up, ice and stim. Everything they can do, to try to get me to a speedy recovery.”

“When it initially happened, definitely the worst (pain),” said Rolle. “I didn’t think anything could feel worse than me running into the camera against Carolina, but I think this definitely topped it. Once it happened, my foot was just trembling, shaking, I really didn’t know what to expect. Like I said, I heard a couple of popping sounds and it kind of scared me. I know myself and once I got the clearance of it, the x-rays were negative, it’s a low ankle sprain, then I know I can push myself.”

“I’ve never been the kind of guy that is going to milk an injury,” said Rolle. “If I can go, I’m going to go. If I can’t go, if I’m going to hurt myself, or I’m not going to give the team the best performance I can give them, I’m not going to go. Right now, like I said, it feels a million times better than it did initially.”

Hynoski says he his rehabilitation is still on schedule. “I’m still hopeful (for opening day),” Hynoski said. “I feel good, but ultimately that decision is not made by me. I’m still working to do everything in my power to make that happen.”

“It’s been going great,” said Hynoski. “I’ve been out here running and started to do some drills and agility work and that stuff so we’re picking up the progress every day, and I’m just excited for the next step and am just looking forward to what tomorrow brings. I feel good. Haven’t had any setbacks…I’m working my butt off in trying to rehab and trying to maintain the best condition as I can so when I get back I don’t have to play catch up as far as that’s concerned.”

OL James Brewer (concussion) and CB Corey Webster (soreness) returned to practice, but Brewer was limited to individual drills.

I’m just excited with my progress and I know that the trainers are happy with where I’m at too.”

Five New York Giants Start Training Camp Off on PUP, Two More Held Out of Conditioning Drills: The Giants placed five players on the active Physically-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) List on Friday: FB Henry Hynoski (knee), OG Chris Snee (hip), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (back), DT Markus Kuhn (knee), and CB Terrell Thomas (knee). Players placed on the active PUP list at the start of training camp can come off the list at any time. A player on the active PUP still counts against the 90-man training camp roster limit.

“(Pierre-Paul is) coming,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “He’s done well. He’s worked hard. I’ve seen him the last two days on the machines in there. His weight is good. He’s optimistic.”

In addition, OC David Baas (unknown) and WR Jerrel Jernigan (hamstring) were held out of conditioning drills.

“I’m not sure why Baas was, to be honest with you,” said Coughlin. “Baas has been doing everything, he came in, and he’s in outstanding shape, but they chose to hold him over there on the side. Jernigan, a little tenderness, you know, so I hope we don’t have to deal with that.”

Giants Sign FB Ryan D’Imperio, Waive PK David Buehler: The Giants signed FB Ryan D’Imperio on Friday. To make room for D’Imperio, the Giants waived PK David Buehler.

First Training Camp Practice Begins on Saturday: The first training camp practice will be held at 1:30-3:45PM on Saturday at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. For a complete schedule and Giants.com Q&A guide, see the Training Camp section of the website.

Henry Hynoski Improving: According to The Star-Ledger, recent medical reports on FB Henry Hynoski have been positive. Hynoski fractured the lateral plateau and damaged the MCL in his left knee during an Organized Team Activity (OTA) practice in May. The Ledger reports that Hynoski may be a little ahead of schedule in his recovery and will likely begin full weight-bearing exercises in the next few weeks. Hynoski and the Giants are still hoping that Hynoski can return by the regular-season opener.
