JOSH BROWN’S DOMESTIC PAST VIOLENCE ISSUES FLARE UP AGAIN…
New revelations about New York Giants place kicker Josh Brown’s past domestic violence issues have been made public. The ensuing public relations firestorm has caused the Giants to announce that Brown will not be traveling to London with the team for Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams. Brown was already suspended without pay for the first regular-season game, but now the league has announced they are considering further sanctions.

“Josh Brown will not travel with the team to London,” announced the Giants in a written statement. “In light of the news reports regarding the documents released by the State of Washington yesterday, we think it makes sense to review this newly disclosed information and to revisit this issue following our trip to London. The Giants do not condone or excuse any form of domestic violence.  Josh has acknowledged that he has issues in his life and has been working on these issues through therapy and counseling for a long period of time. We remain supportive of Josh and his efforts.”

The Giants have not announced who will replace Brown on Sunday.

OCTOBER 20, 2016 NEW YORK GIANTS INJURY REPORT…
Safety Darian Thompson (foot), safety Nat Berhe (concussion), and offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse (calf) did not practice on Thursday.

Wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. (hip), cornerback Eli Apple (groin), cornerback Trevin Wade (ankle), linebacker Keenan Robinson (knee), and long snapper Zak DeOssie (ankle) practiced on a limited basis.

“I feel better than yesterday, so we will see,” said Beckham.

“We’re very optimistic, we’re very hopeful (about Beckham playing),” Offensive Coordinator Mike Sullivan said. “We’ll wait and see.”

“We’re hoping (Apple will play),” said Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. “He did a little bit more today. That’s Ben McAdoo’s call. We certainly don’t want to set him back like with what happened last time. He came off the hamstring and then it set him back with the groin, so we don’t want that to happen. We’ll have to be smart about it. I’m sure Ben will make that decision.”

Defensive Olivier Vernon (wrist) and running back Rashad Jennings (finger) fully practiced.

OCTOBER 13, 2016 NEW YORK GIANTS INJURY REPORT…
Cornerback Eli Apple (groin), safety Darian Thompson (foot), safety Nat Berhe (concussion), wide receiver/returner Dwayne Harris (toe), and offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse (calf) did not practice on Thursday.

Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (groin), defensive end Olivier Vernon (wrist), cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (groin), linebacker Devon Kennard (concussion), running back Rashad Jennings (thumb), and tight end Jerell Adams (ear) were limited in practice.

Tight end Larry Donnell (concussion) fully practiced.

PRACTICE SQUAD MOVES…
The New York Giants have signed linebacker Eric Pinkins and cornerback Michael Hunter to the Practice Squad. To make room for these two, the team placed cornerback Donte Deayon on Practice Squad/Injured Reserve and terminated the Practice Squad contract of quarterback Logan Thomas.

Pinkins was originally drafted in the 6th round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Pinkins was waived by the Seahawks in September 2016. He has played in six regular-season NFL games with no starts. Pinkins has a nice combination of size and speed, but his instincts have been questioned.

Hunter has spent time on both the Practice Squad and 53-man roster in 2016. The Giants originally signed Hunter as an undrafted rookie free agent after the 2016 NFL Draft. Hunter has a nice combination of size and speed.

Deayon was signed to the Practice Squad in September 2016. The Giants originally signed Deayon as an undrafted rookie free agent after the 2016 NFL Draft.

Thomas was originally drafted in the 4th round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. The Dolphins claimed Thomas off of waivers from the Cardinals in September 2015 and the Giants claimed him off of waivers from the Dolphins in June 2016.

OCTOBER 6, 2016 NEW YORK GIANTS INJURY REPORT…
Safety Darian Thompson (foot), safety Nat Berhe (concussion), tight end Larry Donnell (concussion), and offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse (calf) did not practice on Thursday.

Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (groin), cornerback Eli Apple (hamstring), running back Rashad Jennings (thumb), and defensive end Olivier Vernon (wrist) were limited in practice.

“Taking it each day, trying to be a little cautious,” Apple said. “Of course you hear it all the time, guys come back too fast and they tweak (the hamstring) even more. That is how it gets worse. The tweak is probably worse than the initial injury. So you don’t want to do that. You want to be prepared, do everything they tell you to do in the training room and take it day by day, cautious.”

“(Vernon) is battling with that hand,” Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo said. “I don’t think people realize that it is affecting him as much as it is and he battles with it all week and then goes out there and plays.”

Defensive tackle Robert Thomas (illness) fully practiced.

PRACTICE SQUAD MOVES…
The New York Giants have once again re-signed linebacker Deontae Skinner to the Practice Squad and terminated the Practice Squad contract of quarterback Logan Thomas.

Skinner was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the New England Patriots after the 2014 NFL Draft. He has spent time with the Patriots (2014-2015) and Eagles (2015-2016), the latter waiving him on August 22.

Thomas was originally drafted in the 4th round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. The Dolphins claimed Thomas off of waivers from the Cardinals in September 2015 and the Giants claimed him off of waivers from the Dolphins in June 2016.

Running back Rashad Jennings (thumb) was limited in practice. Defensive end Olivier Vernon (wrist) fully practiced.

“Rashad had a nice day today,” said Head Coach Ben McAdoo. “He got some work in both with our offense and the ‘look’ team and had a productive day. He caught some balls, so he’s progressing.”

SEPTEMBER 22, 2016 NEW YORK GIANTS INJURY REPORT – DARIAN THOMPSON OUT…
New York Giants free safety Darian Thompson (sprained foot), who was limited in practice on Wednesday, missed practice on Thursday and has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins. Worse, ESPN.com is reporting that there is “serious concern” that the injury could be a long-term problem. Thompson’s foot will officially now be evaluated on a week-to-week basis.

“I don’t think it’s serious,” said Thompson, who was wearing a walking boot on his left foot. “Right now, it’s just a minor sprain… I don’t know exactly what they call it, but I just know it’s on the top of the foot and they told me it’s minor,”

Offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse (calf) and defensive tackle Robert Thomas (illness) did not practice on Thursday. Running back Rashad Jennings (thumb) was limited. Defensive end Olivier Vernon (wrist) was added to the injury report but he fully practiced.

Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (shoulder) and defensive tackle Robert Thomas (illness) did not practice on Thursday.

“(My shoulder) allowed me to play last Sunday,” said Pierre-Paul. “I’m not even worried about my shoulder. We’re good. I’ll be out there Sunday…maybe.” (The “maybe” was said with a grin).

NIKITA WHITLOCK SUSPENDED 10 GAMES…
New York Giants fullback Nikita Whitlock has been suspended without pay for the team’s next 10 games for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances. Whitlock, who is currently on Injured Reserve with a foot injury, will begin serving his suspension immediately.

This is Whitlock’s second such infraction. The NFL suspended Whitlock in November 2014 for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs when he was with the Dallas Cowboys, who then terminated his Practice Squad contract.

AUGUST 24, 2016 NEW YORK GIANTS INJURY REPORT…
Tight end Will Johnson (burner), tight end Matt LaCosse (knee), safety Darian Thompson (shoulder), and safety Mykkele Thompson (concussion) did not practice on Wednesday.

Left guard Justin Pugh (shoulder) was limited.

Tight end Larry Donnell (unknown) left practice early.

Meanwhile, wide receiver Victor Cruz (groin) practiced for the second day in a row.

“Victor looked great,” Offensive Coordinator Mike Sullivan said. “He has had two strong days, got a lot of balls thrown to him. I’m excited about where he is, and hopefully he will have his opportunity against the Jets (on Saturday).

“There was the suddenness, the explosiveness, the things that I have in mind, visions of 2011 in terms of that type of quickness. So obviously that is something to be excited about, and again, we’re just progressing and hoping for the best. We’re not trying to get overly excited or put too much pressure, just taking it one day, one rep, at a time; and he’s certainly shown some flashes over yesterday.”

New York Giants defensive tackle Jay Bromley (ankle) and linebacker J.T. Thomas (hamstring) remain on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) List.

Wide receiver Victor Cruz (groin), defensive end Kerry Wynn (groin), and linebacker Keenan Robinson (groin) did not practice. “I’m doing good,” Cruz said. “Better.”

PRACTICE NOTES…
Some snippets from various media sources:

  • For the second day in a row, the first-team wide receivers were Odell Beckham, Geremy Davis, and Sterling Shepard (slot).
  • The defense used a three-safety package in 7-on-7 drills with the first-team including Darian Thompson and Nat Berhe deep with Landon Collins in the box. Another package had Leon Hall and Berhe deep with Collins and Thompson closer to the line.
  • The dime defense had a look with Jason Pierre-Paul and Devon Kennard at defensive end and Olivier Vernon and Owamagbe Odighizuwa at defensive tackle.
  • Kelvin Sheppard and Jasper Brinkley continue to see reps at middle linebacker with the first-team. B.J. Goodson received second-team reps at middle linebacker.
  • In 11-on-11 drills, cornerback Janoris Jenkins broke up a slant pass intended for wide receiver Geremy Davis. Jenkins later almost picked off another pass intended for wide receiver Dwayne Harris and broke up another pass intended for Davis in the end zone. Jenkins had a good practice.

GIANTS REPORT TO CAMP ON THURSDAY…
New York Giants players report to summer training camp on Thursday. The first training camp practice will occur on Friday. (A complete schedule is available at Giants.com). Head Coach Ben McAdoo and a number of players will address the press on Thursday.

HAKEEM NICKS SIGNS WITH SAINTS…
New York Giants unrestricted free agent wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has signed a 1-year contract with the New Orleans Saints.

Desperate for veteran wide receiver help, the Giants signed then 27-year old Hakeem Nicks off of the street in November 2015. Unfortunately, the results were not good. Nicks played in six games with two starts, but finished with only seven catches for 54 yards. It’s been a precipitous decline for Nicks ever since his stellar 2010 and 2011 seasons when he compiled 155 catches for 2,244 yards and 18 touchdowns in 28 regular-season games.

Nicks was originally drafted by the Giants in the 1st round of the 2009 NFL Draft. After two disappointing seasons in 2012 and 2013 when Nicks’ production fell to 109 passes for 1,588 yards and three touchdowns in 28 regular-season games, Nicks departed in free agency for the Indianapolis Colts. Nicks’ production in Indianapolis was disappointing too as he caught 38 passes for 405 yards and four touchdowns. He tried to catch on with the Tennessee Titans in training camp in 2015 but did not make the team. Nicks’ demise has largely been attributed to injuries, including compartment syndrome in his lower right leg in 2010 as well as a broken right foot and a poster cruciate ligament (PCL) tear in 2012.

DANIEL FELLS RETIRES…
Although not officially announced, it appears New York Giants tight end Daniel Fells has retired. Fells was placed on Injured Reserve in October 2015 after multiple career-threatening surgeries were required to address a life-threatening staph infection that developed in an injured ankle. He only played in two games in 2015 and finished with six catches for 60 yards.

Fells said on his Instagram account, “Although playing the game is no longer in the cards for me I’m grateful for the 10 year career that I was blessed to experience.”

Fells was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Atlanta Falcons after the 2006 NFL Draft. He has spent time with the Falcons, Raiders, Buccaneers, Rams, Broncos, and Patriots. The Giants signed Fells to a reserve/future contract in January 2014. He played in all 16 games for the Giants in 2014 with nine starts, accruing 16 catches for 188 yards and four touchdowns.

TOM COUGHLIN ACCEPTS JOB WITH NFL…
According to press report, former New York Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin has accepted a full-time position with the NFL’s football operations department. His exact role has yet to be announced by the League. Coughlin was de facto fired in January by the Giants after serving with the team since 2004.

This picture of me and my baby girl was taken a little over a year ago at Quest Diagnostic. I wish I was heading into battle with my brothers as Training Camp starts up this week but I also believe that everything happens for a reason. Although playing the game is no longer in the cards for me I'm grateful for the 10 year career that I was blessed to experience. Thank you all for the phone calls, text messages, emails and well wishes that I've gotten over the last few months. I'm working hard to accept my physical limitations and the mental struggles that go along with them. I know that I'm lucky to be alive so I'm determined to make the most of everyday that I have. Looking forward to cheering for my G-men and all of my former teammates on different teams around the nation this year #onceagiantalwaysagiant
