December 10, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report Includes Eli Manning: OT James Brewer (concussion), LB Jameel McClain (knee), and LB Jacquian Williams (concussion/shoulder) did not practice on Wednesday.

QB Eli Manning (back) and LB Mark Herzlich (concussion) practiced on a limited basis.

“I don’t know if I really got hurt,” said. “I feel good. The coach wanted to take a few reps off. It wasn’t many reps anyway, so it is not going to limit me in my practices for the week, or the game. Just kind of some of the procedures you have to go through now in the NFL.”

LB Devon Kennard Named “NFC Defensive Player of the Week”: New York Giants linebacker Devon Kennard has been named the “NFC Defensive Player of the Week” for his performance against the Tennessee Titans last Sunday in the team’s 36-7 victory.

In that game, Kennard was credited with six solo tackles, two sacks, two tackles for losses, and a forced fumble that was returned for a touchdown by defensive tackle Markus Kuhn.

“(Kennard) has been a really outstanding player for us in the last few weeks,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “He has had a number of sacks, a number of hits on the quarterback and he has played well at the linebacker level, whether it is in coverage or whatever. He is a young man who…loves to play. He is physical and he is one of those guys by just looking in his eyes you know that he wants to be on the field.”

Kennard is the first Giant defender to receive a Player of the Week award since defensive end Justin Tuck in Week 13 of the 2013 season. He is the first Giants linebacker to be honored since Mathias Kiwanuka, who played linebacker that season, in Week 9 in 2011 against New England.

Kennard is the first Giants defensive rookie to be honored as a Player of the Week.

“There have been some incredible linebackers to play for this organization,” Kennard said. “So something like that, it was definitely special. But I know that I have a long way to go and a lot of things that I want to improve and continue to develop in my game. I’m just taking it one day at a time and am grateful for that accomplishment.”

“I think I played a good game, but there are always things (to improve),” Kennard said. “Route recognition, understanding formations, just allowing myself to play faster and faster. That’s all going to come with the more reps I get, the more comfortable I’m getting. I just want to continue to get better. I’m not in any way, shape or form satisfied.”

“Kennard is a phenomenal kid,” linebacker Jameel McClain said. “Kennard is focusing on his game and he focuses on details. For him to be so young and be such a professional, it is amazing.”

Giants Re-Sign DT Dominique Hamilton to the Practice Squad: The New York Giants have re-signed defensive tackle Dominique Hamilton to the team’s Practice Squad.

Hamilton originally signed with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted rookie free agent after the 2012 NFL Draft. The Raiders cut him and he was on NFL practice squads in 2012 (Redskins) and 2013 (Redskins and Chiefs). The Chiefs waived him in August 2014.

The Giants signed him to the Practice Squad on September 3, signed him to the 53-man roster on December 2, and waived him on December 6 when linebacker Paul Hazel was promoted to the 53-man roster.

Notes: In the last six games, WR Odell Beckham has caught 49 passes. That is the highest total in a six-game span by a rookie in NFL history.

Beckham is both the first Giants player ever and the first rookie in NFL history with six consecutive games with 90 or more receiving yards.

Beckham has two games this season with at least 10 catches and 130 receiving yards. He is the first rookie in NFL history to do that.

In Tennessee, Beckham totaled 11 catches for 130 yards and running back Andre Williams rushed for 131 yards on 24 carries. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Giants were the first team in NFL history to have rookies with 130 rushing and receiving yards in the same game.

Quarterback Eli Manning has thrown for 3,340 yards this year. It is his 10th consecutive 3,000-yard season, the fourth-longest streak in NFL history behind Brett Favre (18), Peyton Manning (13) and Drew Brees (11).

In the last two weeks, the Giants had seven sacks at Jacksonville and eight at Tennessee. It is the first time in their history they had at least seven sacks in consecutive games.

If the Giants defeat Washington on Sunday, they will clinch third place in the NFC East.

November 7, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: Aside from the 12 players on Injured Reserve, everyone practiced on Friday.

RB Rashad Jennings (knee), CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (back/hamstring), CB Zack Bowman (viral gastroenteritis), DE Mathias Kiwanuka (knee), DT Cullen Jenkins (calf), and P Steve Weatherford (ankle/back) practiced on a limited basis. Jennings is “doubtful” for the game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Bowman, Kiwanuka, and Jenkins are “questionable.” Rodgers-Cromartie and Weatherford are “probable.”

“(Jennings) practiced two days this week,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “He is running around and doing all those kinds of things. We are going to have to make sure that he is ready to compete in a game. We will list him as such and then talk about him when we get inside.”

“As you would expect for a guy that has been in the hospital, (Bowman) didn’t seem to have an overly amount of energy, but he is out there and he is positive,” said Coughlin. “I think another day with a good night’s rest, some nourishment, etcetera, etcetera, hopefully he will be playing.”

OG Weston Richburg (ankle) and OG Adam Snyder (knee) fully practiced. Both are “probable.”

Giants Sign CB Mike Harris, Place LB Jon Beason on IR: The New York Giants signed cornerback Mike Harris off of the Practice Squad of the Detroit Lions.

Harris was originally drafted in the 6th round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. In two seasons with Jacksonville, Harris played in 31 games with eight starts. Harris was waived by the Jaguars in August 2014 before signing with the Lions in October. Harris has decent size and athleticism. He has experience playing in the slot. Harris is a good tackler and special teams player.

Because of these moves, we have updated the Transactions, Roster, and Depth Chart sections of the website.

Linebacker Practice Squad Moves: The Giants have terminated the Practice Squad contract of linebacker Carlos Fields. To fill that vacancy, the Giants re-signed linebacker Justin Anderson to the Practice Squad. Anderson was originally signed by the Giants as an undrafted rookie free agent after the 2014 NFL Draft. The Giants cut him on August 26.

Notes: This season, the Giants are 3-0 when they score first, 0-4 when they don’t.

Giants opponents gained at least 400 yards four times in the first seven games. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, that last happened in 1948.

The Giants have not scored an opening-possession touchdown in 18 consecutive games, the NFL’s longest streak.

Larry Donnell and Daniel Fells each have four touchdown receptions this season, the first time the Giants have had two tight ends with at least that many since 1994, when Howard Cross and Aaron Pierce each finished the season with four.

October 8, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: RB Rashad Jennings (knee) and LB Spencer Paysinger (hamstring) did not practice on Wednesday.

“There’s progress,” Jennings said. “The strength is coming back quickly, the healing is coming rather quickly. I’ve just got to continue to stay the course.”

CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (ankle/hamstring), LB Jon Beason (foot/toe), and P Steve Weatherford (left ankle) practiced on a limited basis.

“I practiced full speed today,” Rodgers-Cromartie said. “I was out there running around and felt good.”

Contrary to the Giants’ official injury report, Rodgers-Cromartie says his knee has been the issue. “I was getting my knee looked at,” said DRC. “My main problem was my knee. This whole right side, but I’m good.”

Chandler Fenner and Julian Talley Back on Practice Squad: The New York Giants have re-signed CB Chandler Fenner and WR Julian Talley to the Practice Squad. Both were waived from the 53-man roster on Monday when CB Jayron Hosley and RB Michael Cox were added.

October 6, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: RB Rashad Jennings sprained the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee in the game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Jennings will not need surgery but he was wearing a knee brace when talking to the press on Monday. It is not clear how much time he will miss.

“I am going to go day-to-day,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin of Jennings. “I’m not going to change off of that until I am told differently…We are all hoping that this young man is a fast healer with the way he conditions and takes care of himself. We’ll see.”

Meanwhile, CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie underwent a medical exam on Monday to check out a hip/leg issue.

“The word has come back to me that he thinks he can play with it,” said Coughlin. “It is a leg injury, but pinpointing it is not something that I am going to try to do. It starts with an ankle, but I noticed that he has had some issue way up high in the hip area also from time to time. I am just going to stick with the leg right now. We felt that he could work through it on a couple of occasions, but I think (Senior Vice President of Medical Services) Ronnie (Barnes) wanted to shut it down and take a look at whatever was going on there. Hopefully, we can overcome it. He thinks he can play through it as he rehabs and feels better about it…I don’t think this is anything new or different. I think it is an ongoing thing.”

LB Spencer Paysinger suffered a hamstring injury in the game and underwent further testing today. No word yet on his status.  “The severity, I don’t know, we will see,” Coughlin said. “We have a couple of those things at the linebacker level that seem to be forever but shouldn’t be. Hopefully that is not the case with Spencer Paysinger.”

LB Jon Beason (foot/toe) was held out of his third consecutive game on Sunday. “The injury obviously and the projection between the medical people and Jon himself as to how far he could go into the game and where he would be if he were to put another solid week in front of him without any kind of setbacks,” said Coughlin.

RB Michael Cox and CB Jayron Hosley Added to 53-Man Roster: The New York Giants signed RB Michael Cox to the 53-man roster from the Practice Squad on Monday. CB Jayron Hosley was also officially added to the roster after his 1-game roster exemption expired following his 4-game NFL suspension for violating the league’s policy on illegal drugs.

To make room for Cox and Hosley, the Giants waived WR Julian Talley and CB Chandler Fenner.

The Giants also waived WR/returner Trindon Holliday (hamstring) off of Injured Reserve with an injury settlement.

Because of these moves, we have updated the Transactions, Roster, and Depth Chart sections of the website.

September 19, 2014 New York Giants Injury Report: Not practicing on Friday were WR Odell Beckham (hamstring), LB Jon Beason (foot/ankle), and LB Devon Kennard (hamstring), and P Steve Weatherford (ankle). Weatherford is officially listed as “questionable” against the Houston Texans on Sunday while Beckham, Beason, and Kennard have been ruled out of the game.

“Our medical people, after listening to the conversation (with the specialists), just figured that this wouldn’t be a week to put (Beason) out there,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “He’ll probably have to fight through something like this for the duration (of the season), let’s put it that way.”

OT Charles Brown (shoulder) and OT James Brewer (back) practiced on a limited basis. Both are listed as “questionable” for the game.

DT Markus Kuhn (ankle) fully practiced and is “probable.”

Giants Waive OG Eric Herman: The Giants have waived OG Eric Herman, who returned to the team Wednesday after serving a two-week suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances (PEDs). The suspension was originally four weeks, but Herman was reinstated early as a result of the terms of the League’s new PED Policy. The Giants had been granted a two-day roster exemption for Herman that expired at 4:00PM Friday. Herman is eligible to join the practice squad.
