October 8, 2013 New York Giants Injury Update: Not practicing on Tuesday were RB David Wilson (neck), TE Adrien Robinson (foot), OC David Baas (neck), DE Damontre Moore (hamstring), CB Corey Webster (groin), CB Jayron Hosley (hamstring), S Cooper Taylor (shoulder), and LS Zak DeOssie (back).

Wilson has already been ruled out of Thursday night’s game against the Chicago Bears. “David will be week to week,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “He has a neck issue, so it will be week to week.”

It also sounds like Webster will miss his fourth straight game. “I don’t see any change there,” said Coughlin.

Practicing on a limited basis were WR Louis Murphy (ankle), TE Brandon Myers (ankle), and DT Linval Joseph (ankle).

LB Mark Herzlich (toe) and CB Terrell Thomas (knee) fully practiced.

Giants Re-Sign RB Da’Rel Scott and Waive DE Justin Trattou: The Giants re-signed RB Da’Rel Scott on Tuesday. Scott was waived by the Giants last Tuesday. To make room for Scott, the Giants waived DE Justin Trattou.

Giants Add Two to the Practice Squad: The Giants had two vacancies on the Practice Squad to fill and they did so by signing CB Junior Mertile and LB Darin Drakeford. Mertile is a rookie free agent who was with the Giants in training camp. Drakeford was an undrafted rookie free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs who was released from the Chiefs’ Practice Squad on October 1st.

The vacancies were created when the Giants signed CB Charles James from the Practice Squad to the 53-man roster and the Buffalo Bills signed LB Ty Powell from the Giants’ Practice Squad.

LB Jon Beason Traded to New York Giants: The New York Giants have acquired LB Jon Beason from the Carolina Panthers by trade in exchange for a “late-round” draft pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Beason, who was drafted in the 1st round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Panthers and who has played in three Pro Bowls (2008-10), has had his career sidetracked with serious season-ending injuries in 2011 (ruptured left Achilles tendon) and 2012 (right ACL tear that required microfracture knee surgery). The Panthers benched him two weeks ago for ex-Giant Chase Blackburn.

This is the Giants’ first in-season trade since they traded for RB Ottis Anderson from the St. Louis Cardinals in 1986.

“It’s amazing,” said Beason after passing the Giants’ physical. “It doesn’t happen (often) with mid-season trades. But the one place I said if I wasn’t in Carolina where I wanted to be was with a great organization like the Giants with a winning tradition, leadership, a 4-3 scheme where I can come in right now. I think I can really come out and impact the season.

“I know I’ll come in tomorrow early and meet the coaches and I’ll get my linebacker coach (Jim Herrmann) and we’re going to cram. If they ask me to, I’ll dress (Sunday) and I’ll give everything I have…It’s just going to be terminology. I’m a smart player. I learn fast. Being a mike linebacker, a lot is on your plate. I think I actually thrive in that position. I’m going to get with coach as long as it takes and as fast as I can get it as soon as I want to play.”

The Giants play the Eagles on Sunday but also have a short week after that, playing the Bears on Thursday night.

“The turnaround is the tough part,” said Beason. “Those Thursday night games are always hard. We’ll see what Coach (Tom) Coughlin has and whatever he says that’s what I’ll do.”

Beason thought the Giants might have drafted him in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft, but the Giants selected CB Aaron Ross instead.

“(The Giants) were one of the teams that brought me in and I knew they were high on me and I thought they were going to take me, but you know the draft,” Beason said.

“It’s hard (missing so many games the last two seasons), but you understand that it’s a process and you have to go through it and then once you come to grasps with it that you know you can’t do anything about it. You might as well say, ‘Let’s get the surgery done’ and now every day is building toward getting back out there and playing football. The injuries have been a problem, but I wouldn’t change one thing because I know they’re not going to define me.”

OG Chris Snee’s Season is Over: OG Chris Snee was placed on Injured Reserve on Friday. He will likely undergo surgery on his right hip to repair a torn labrum only months after undergoing offseason surgery on his left hip to repair a torn labrum and bone spurs.

“I’ve always been able to play through things, but clearly I couldn’t,” said Snee. “The best thing is for me to watch my team play and try to get my hip right…I’ve prided myself in playing through things and…I just can’t.”

Snee was asked if the injury might be career-ending. “That’s not something I’m thinking about right now,” replied Snee. “I’m honestly just trying to get over the frustration of this and deal with surgery and deal with rehab. I’ll think about that later.”

“I’ve always been a guy that by Friday could suit up and play,” said Snee. “I was kind of secretly hoping I’d wake up and things would feel differently, I would respond to the treatment and the medicine. It just didn’t happen. It’s frustrating. It’s just a new situation for me. I’ve always been able to play through things. Sometimes things nobody knew about, things that I kept to myself, but I had to be honest with everyone because it really got to the point where I was doing no good, to be honest.”

Injury Update – Giants Down Three Corners: Not practicing on Friday were DT Linval Joseph (ankle/knee), CB Corey Webster (hip), CB Aaron Ross (back), CB Jayron Hosley (hamstring), OC David Baas (neck), and TE Adrien Robinson (foot). Of this group, Webster is “doubtful” for the game on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles and the rest will not play.

DT Cullen Jenkins (knee/achilles), DT Shaun Rogers (back), LB Mark Herzlich (toe), CB Terrell Thomas (knee), and WR Louis Murphy (ankle) practiced on a limited basis. Jenkins and Murphy are “questionable” for the game while Rogers, Herzlich, and Thomas are “probable.”

DE Jason Pierre-Paul (knee), LB Jacquian Williams (knee), S Cooper Taylor (shoulder), and OT David Diehl (thumb) fully practiced. All four players are “probable” for the game.

October 3, 2013 New York Giants Injury Report – Webster Has a Setback: Not practicing on Thursday were DT Linval Joseph (ankle/knee), DT Cullen Jenkins (knee/achilles), CB Corey Webster (hip), CB Aaron Ross (back), CB Jayron Hosley (hamstring), OC David Baas (neck), OG Chris Snee (hip), and TE Adrien Robinson (foot).

It looks like the Giants may be without both of their starting defensive tackles and three of their cornerbacks on Sunday.

Webster, who has missed the last two games, did not practice on Thursday after working on a limited basis on Wednesday. “(Webster) worked a couple of plays yesterday and came out today and he was sore, so they held him out,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin.

“(Joseph is) in a boot,” said Coughlin. “He actually has made pretty good progress, but at this point in time he does not have the green light.”

DT Shaun Rogers (back), LB Mark Herzlich (toe), and CB Terrell Thomas (knee) practiced on a limited basis.

DE Jason Pierre-Paul (knee), LB Jacquian Williams (knee), S Cooper Taylor (shoulder), and OT David Diehl (thumb) fully practiced.

Diehl to Start at Right Guard: David Diehl revealed on Thursday that he will start at right guard in place of James Brewer this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles. Will Beatty will remain at left tackle, Kevin Booth at left guard, Jim Cordle at center, and Justin Pugh at right tackle.

September 27, 2013 New York Giants Injury Report – Baas, Snee, and Webster Out: Not practicing on Friday were OC David Baas (neck), OG Chris Snee (hip), TE Adrien Robinson (foot), and CB Corey Webster (hip). All four players have officially been ruled “out” of Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

OT David Diehl (thumb), DE Justin Trattou (ankle), LB Spencer Paysinger (hip), LB Jacquian Williams (knee), CB Terrell Thomas (knee), and S Cooper Taylor (shoulder) practiced on a limited basis. Diehl is “doubtful”; Williams and Taylor are “questionable”; and Thomas, Paysinger, and Trattou are “probable” for the game on Sunday.

The Giants will head to Kansas City with only six healthy offensive linemen on the current 53-man roster. Head Coach Tom Coughin would not reveal who would start at left guard, center, and right guard. Kevin Boothe could start at left guard or center. James Brewer could start at right or left guard, as could Brandon Mosley. Jim Cordle could start at center.

In addition, in all likelihood, Giants will have to make a roster move on Saturday in order to sign one of the three offensive linemen currently on the Practice Squad: Stephen Goodin, Eric Herman, or Steven Baker.

September 26, 2013 New York Giants Injury Report – Terrell Thomas Sits Out: Not practicing on Thursday were OC David Baas (neck), OG Chris Snee (hip), TE Adrien Robinson (foot), DE Justin Trattou (ankle), LB Jacquian Williams (knee), CB Corey Webster (hip), and CB Terrell Thomas (knee).

“(Baas and Snee are) trying like heck to get better and they’ve been kept inside,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin.

“Supposedly (Williams is) going to be able to practice tomorrow,” said Coughlin.

“I did think (Webster) might make it today, but that’s not the case,” said Coughlin.

OT David Diehl (thumb), LB Spencer Paysinger (hip), and S Cooper Taylor (shoulder) practiced on a limited basis.

“(Diehl is) doing well,” said Coughlin. “He’s had two days of practice now. He’s enthusiastic, trying to help as best he can…I don’t know (if he will play on Sunday) just yet.”

“(Practice) went pretty good,” Diehl said. “It’s just great to be back out there. I’ve been working my ass off. I did a little bit more today at practice than I did yesterday. As long as I keep making the progress that I’m making and feeling good and the doctors clear me to go on Sunday, we’ll see what happens. I’m going to go out there tomorrow and give it my best shot to see if I can be out there and help this football team compete.”

Giants Claim LB Allen Bradford Off of Waivers from Seahawks: The Giants have claimed LB Allen Bradford off of waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.

Practice Squad Moves: The Giants have re-signed WR Marcus Harris to the Practice Squad. To make room for Harris, the Giants terminated the Practice Squad contract of OT Steven “Sam” Baker.

Injury Update: Not practicing on Thursday were CB Prince Amukamara (concussion), OT David Diehl (thumb), and TE Adrien Robinson (foot).

“(Amukamara is) getting tested right now, but hopefully he’s going to be okay,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “He seems to be fine. I can’t get him to tell me he’s had any issues, but he did the same thing the night of the game. We’ll see…I would say if he works (on Friday) and gets a good day’s work, then we would have a good chance (to play on Sunday). Barring setbacks, you know how that goes.”

OC David Baas (knee) and DE Damontre Moore (shoulder) were limited in practice.

“(Baas has) had a couple of days of practice time and he wants more every day,” said Coughlin. “That’s a good sign.”

“Right now, I’m very encouraged,” said Baas. “Today was definitely better than yesterday. Tomorrow will be a huge indicator.”

RB Da’Rel Scott (knee) fully practiced.

New York Giants Re-Structure Contracts of Chris Snee and Steve Weatherford: As first anticipated by BBI cap analyst Optimus-NY, the Giants re-structured the contracts of OG Chris Snee and P Steve Weatherford on Wednesday.

Snee’s 2013 base salary of $6.7 million was reduced to $4.2 million. However, his 2014 base salary will increase from $6.95 million to $7.2 million.

Weatherford’s 2013 base salary of $1.825 was reduced to $925,000 with the rest converted into a bonus.

The moves created approximately $1.925 million in cap space.

New York Giants Pick Team Captains: QB Eli Manning, DE Justin Tuck, S Antrel Rolle, OG Chris Snee, and LS Zak DeOssie were voted team captains by their teammates for the 2013 NFL season. It is the sixth consecutive season Manning has been elected a captain, the fourth time for Tuck, and the third for DeOssie.

“These guys were all elected by the players,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “Am I happy they were selected? Yes, I am because I think the number one thing is always ‘team’ and people have to lead by example, first, and ‘well done is better than well said.’ Yet, through the course of the long and difficult, challenging season, you’re going to see an opportunity for people to show what they’re made of in good and bad and that’s where leadership comes from. Adversity, remember, makes you stronger, according to John Wooden.”

“They have demonstrated over the years, honestly, not just this fall, a true, true interest and concern in the well-being of our team, not their own individual thing. I think there’s tremendous growth in each individual. You watch and listen to Antrel, and I think that you know that his heart and mind is in, and has been in for quite some time, the right place. I just think they’re guys that work in different ways and have demonstrated exceptional leadership and have done more than their part. You open the door to the offensive line room and there’s one guy sitting behind that machine every time you peek in there and it’s 76 (Snee).

“You know where Eli stands. I think Tuck has come back this fall and really he’s not been very verbal, but he’s demonstrated and shown good example, and I think that’s really what the challenge was for Justin based on a year ago. And Zak has been steady and he has been, as a captain, is this his third year already, he has been very forthright and never leaves a stone unturned in terms of what he thinks with regard to his effort on special teams or his contributions in the meeting room.”

Injury Update: Not practicing on Thursday were OC David Baas (knee), OT David Diehl (thumb), and TE Adrien Robinson (foot).

FB Henry Hynoski (knee), WR Victor Cruz (heel), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (back), and DE Damontre Moore (shoulder) were limited in practice.

CB Jayron Hosley (ankle) fully practiced.

August 12, 2013 New York Giants Training Camp Reports: The Giants held their 12th training camp practice on Monday afternoon at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. The next practice is on Tuesday from 1:30-3:45PM. For a complete training camp schedule and Giants.com Q&A guide, see the Training Camp section of the website.

Head Coach Tom Coughlin informed the press that there are only eight more practices left before the regular season begins. “I was telling the coaches this morning and the players that as of this morning we had nine practices left before the regular season,” said Coughlin before Monday’s practice. “Can you imagine that? Nine practices. It’s ridiculous.”

Injury Update – Antrel Rolle Carted Off Field With Ankle Injury: Not practicing on Monday were WR Jerrel Jernigan (soreness), WR Brandon Collins (hamstring), OL James Brewer (concussion), OT Chris DeGeare (ankle), DE Damontre Moore (shoulder), CB Corey Webster (soreness), S Cooper Taylor (hamstring), FB Henry Hynoski (PUP – knee), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (PUP – back), and DT Markus Kuhn (PUP – knee).

“(Moore) has a contusion of his shoulder,” said Head Coach Tom Coughlin. “And I think he’s probably day to day, but he’s sore, he’s sore.”

Antrel Rolle was carted off the field after injuring his right ankle. Rolle will be undergoing an MRI in order to determine the severity of the injury. According to multiple press reports, the initial diagnosis is a sprain, but there is no word on whether the sprain is the more serious high-ankle variety, which can take some time to recover from.

DE Justin Tuck (back), OL Justin Pugh (concussion), and RB Ryan Torain (concussion) returned to practice.

“Obviously, missing the reps, that’s something that’s big,” said Pugh who suffered the injury on August 1st. “I wish I could get those back. But right now I’ve just got to go out there and play. I really can’t control that now.”

Roster Moves: The Giants waived/injured WR Kris Adams (broken ankle) on Monday. To fill his roster spot, the Giants signed WR Marcus Harris.
